Hi,

I'm thinking of attending a public day at Spa, has anyone done it before and do I need to get there as early as possible?

I'm assuming they get full and it's first come, first served?

Thanks
Keith

If you mean this http://www.spa-francorchamps.be/en/track-activitie...

You need to book it in advance - decent value at €290. I'll be there 21/07.

True, you need to get this booked in advance.

I have attended one two years ago.

It is a very good way to get to know the track for not a lot of money.

That said, i wouldn't do it again.

Although the price is low compared to other events and trackdays, so is the quality of track time.

They separate in sessions of 25 minutes from which you actually lose around 4 minutes as the first lap is always with a safety car infront going on a slow pace.

So there is a lot of rush when everyone jumps into track for 20 minutes.

If you plan on putting a few more laps during the day then don't bother.

Stretch a bit more and go for a trackday as you will get to enjoy both the track and you car far more than on a PDE.

Kostas.

A fair point. Only my second Spa outing this year so probably go for a OPL next time although the mileage is actually spot on for us with DN the day after...

At 4 sessions that's not very good value at all.
I would go with a UK track day organizer some charging less than that per day for open pit.

Nick, we're going with DF trackdays (a Dutch TDO) this year which is another option compared to UK organizers. Similar price to UK ones (a little less at the moment with current exchange rate). Overtaking either side rules a la RMA days. We're mostly using them as they have a day at Spa, a day off and then a day at Zandvoort which for us is preferable to two days on the bounce at Spa (which is what most UK operators do in the summer).

Drop a word whichever day you guys are coming.

I work at Spa and am almost everyday around the track, so it would be nice to meet some of you in person.

Also if you need help with anything, don't hesitate.

Its superb value for us because of DN ring the day after as it saves other logistical /accomodation cost.

First time for us. Price and rules are on par with the main UK TDOs (overtaking rules are the same as RMA). The owner (Peter) has been great to deal with. All other reports I dug up gave good feedback. There are nine of us in our group (mostly Porsches) so you should be in good company (email me if you want to tag along with us). Only small hurdle so far was having to pay by international electronic transfer rather than credit card.

Cheers, any idea how many spaces there are in total? I'm just deciding as i want to go to the Ring also. With this being on a Monday, I could go Ring Sunday, SPA Monday, Ring Tuesday, home Wednesday. But means i have to carry a spare seat as mine have wings and wont be accepted on a public day. Or do i do DN in Sep.......argh..... Never done SPA before.

Porsche's sound good!! I'll be in a Civic Type R EP3 Supercharged, need to make a decision ASAP.

Nabu, I was there on Friday 29 April...would like to get some pictures of my car in action (I had the red Challenge Stradale), do you know any of the numerous photographers who were around?

Not sure. Most TDOs book around 100 cars for Spa because it's such a big circuit and will cope with that number. Unfortunately their calendar is now saying fully booked on our day! Can't help you decide on the best date for the Ring because I don't know what's best for there. All I can say about Spa is that it's the best normal race circuit bar none! First time takes your breath away!

I looked that up mate but i cannot find anything on the photographers i know.

I see it was a Skylimit event you attended so try contacting them and get some contact details.

Also, about the rest, DF is co-operating with Skylimit for some days for the 1st of August. You can check that on Skylimit's website.

So that will give you an idea about people and cars that will be attending (if any of you had experience with SL in the past).
