itsallicanafford - how did you get on with your 106 Rallye at snet 300? Have a similar powered car so intrigued to know if the circuit favours low powered cars or not..
Snett handles disparate power really well. several places to move over and it's great for light cars too.

It would have been great, i think it is a good track for lower powered cars. Unfortunately i could never get upto any sort of decent speed yesterday as I've got an issue with overheating at speed at the moment, we did a radiator change just before the trackday but that didn't help. I think the waterpump is the issue.

Anyway, the 106 felt very much like my old Mk1 MX-5 used to around Snett, maybe slightly quicker

Cool thanks :-)

OP, how about an Alfa 155? two on car and classic within budget, a V6 and a 1.8 twinspark, the latter being supposedly mint.

Not that it helps much but i was in the exactly same position as you looking for a 106 and ended up buying a 309 gti.

They don't come up often but are alot cheaper than 205 gtis.

What about a 205 rallye?

ax gt (probably harder to find)

Was going to say clio williams but just seen the price of them.

I'm (read; paying someone else to) 'building' a 106 GTi track car and it's been a bit of a journey.

Expect garages to twist and moan about every little job. And the chassis is rotting all over the place.

Great cars, but mine's been a pain in the arse to get properly going.

A 206 Grand Tourisme would be a good shout. looks are a little marmite though.

Clio 16v will probably be in budget if you can find one, haven't taken off like the Williams yet.

I managed to pick up a S1 Rallye just before Christmas at around that price point, I've used it a couple of times this year but it is slowing turning into a restoration project the more I look at...

Well, if were posting pictures, here's an S2 wink taken this morning

My one was £2300 6 months ago, I'm sure you could get one for £2k if you stake our the rallye forum for sale section

OP... Have you noticed how passionate everyone gets whenever the Rallye is discussed? Perhaps you should consider increasing the budget!

Rallye owners really do love them there's no doubting that! I'm going to view the 1.3 S1 this weekend and see what I think about it. If the shell it good I might take a punt and then think about a future engine change.

Oh also been looking at Mini Cooper S' they've really dropped in price! No idea on the reliability of them and I imagine supercharger rebuilds aren't cheap.

Not managed to find the time this weekend which is frustrating, it's 4+ hour drive so pretty much a days outing. I'll trawl the Internet tomorrow at some point and hopefully some others cars will also appear.

Suzuki swift GTi?

I remember these being quite handy - and seeing one screaming around castle combe today reminded me.

Just get a 106 gti or saxo vts.

The rallye is just a slower car with a thicker ARB.

I would suggest finding either an S1 106 rallye or AX GT/GTi thats been track prep'd (any rust on these cars should be quite easy to sort out for a regular body shop).
I've got an Ax GT mk1 120 bhp hill climb car that is slowly being prepared with an MOT / track use, twin 40's, big valve head, 120 bhp, roll cage bucket seats etc I would sell that for £2k PM for details 700 kg/ 120 bhp.
