Been to the ring twice and loads of UK trackdays of which Brands GP is the most interesting overall circuit.

Far, far out ahead, in terms of enjoyment and experience and dripping with quality, was the RSR Premium Trackday at Spa. Book one of these.

I've been lucky enough to do both, and whilst Spa is great, nothing compares to The 'Ring.

Obviously this debate could go on forever as many of the aspects of the conversation are totally subjective.

What can be approached in a more objective way though is the difference in safety on the two tracks.

Spa certainly is safer, with big run offs and room for error. Of course you can end up crashing, as everywhere.

Ring is more dangerous as literally there is no room for error in most of the track. Period.

That said, Ring is more of a thrill. Intimidating. It is a rush and that is what makes it unique.

Spa will get you feel familiar with the circuit faster, and also you will be able to be repetitive and get results on your driving skills faster.
It is one of the best F1 circuits on the calendar for a reason.

For the upcoming 2017 RSRSpa trackdays you can sign up on the newsletter and you will know as soon as they are out.

I would add that the RSR Spa premium days(having done several myself) are indeed probably the best you can do.

RSR Spa trackday £460+, Circuit Days Spa trackday £299.

What do you get for your extra £161+? That's not a premium day either. RSR premium day is £670.

Price is partly dependent on the track rental cost - which largely depends on the time of year. October is cheaper than August.

The premium RSR days have fewer cars. Also, it's a different experience as overtaking is anywhere and on both sides.

Prices for RSR and Circuit Days are both for 17th and 18th October. Same dates, same venue, significant price difference.

So what do RSR give you for 50%+ more cost? I suggest nothing, they just charge more. Unless anyone can educate me as to what I'm missing?

Calender links:

I based the exchange rate on XE.com. Basing it on what the Natwest will give you on a debit card transaction (1.154) plus their 2.75% fee the RSR day actually comes out at £488. Compared with Circuit Days at £299. For the same days at the same venue.

If you can shed light as to why there's such a price difference, other than because they can get away with it, then feel free to reply, biased or not smile If they add value then great, I often pay more if I'm getting more for my money, I've no problem with that.

Edited to add that I'm genuinely interested. The RSR website doesn't seem to give any info on their normal track days, only the premium days. I'm not overly interested in their premium days as, due to the way the days are run, Id be obliged to take my race car which I'm not particularly inclined to do as I like the fuss free element of jumping in a car and just driving to, at and back from the track.

Anyway, I have plans to do a lot more European events (will have done at least 8 this year) and RSR organise a lot of track days. It would be useful to know if they're outright expensive or if they give more for the money.

RSR might be expensive because they have a wide range of track hire cars so may attract people who want their cars and like to buy under one roof (rental + event). Not sure if RSR still rent for non-RSR track days. Also, they might just yield manage the spare capacity not occupied by the above rental customer (who may actually get a better rate rolled in the "bundled price"). Just conjectures, I don't know that market very well.

I THINK RSR are just listing all the events at Spa with an approximate price and not reselling those places but I could be wrong. confused

For me I`d say the Ring. Whilst I think Spa is bloody fantastic and thoroughly enjoy driving it, the Ring is unique. I`ve never driven a circuit like it, I don`t know if it`s because of the bumps, the variation in corners and elevation or the closeness of the barriers, maybe it`s simply the length of the track? What I do know is all those factors combine to make it something rather special.

It`s why I keep going back year after year biggrin

At Spa now. It's rammed. The track was red flagged ten mins ago and I sat watching wide eyed at the number of cars that left the circuit.

Some very serious cars here. Can't move for MClarens/GT3s/Ferraris/Lambo etc.

Weathers spot on though.

Your Exige looked awesome and there was some serous metal on track yesterday. We did a day trip from London to Spa and back in the AMG GTS

Got back late last night....

...what an adventure - drove the X-BOW there and back wink
On the way back had to deal with a monsoon downpour - reminded me of the F1 driver description of having to look sideways to get the bearings on where you are going...couldn't even see the lane markings/road/etc!...then learning at a service station about eurotunnel issues and rebooking the ferry...then worrying about whether the X-BOW would get on the ferry unharmed.

...but all went well!

Track conditions were excellent considering mid October date. In a way there weren't too many cars (especially yesterday) but over the two days I only managed one clear lap at the end of day 1. Yesterday afternoon the traffic seemed to be thinning out too but had to leave early.

Still enjoyed it though.
