Anyone going on Sunday? Looks like it's going to be very wet... currently undecided between going in a 7 with no roof or windscreen or wimping out and taking my Boxster.

Well, better weather than expected but very very slippery with a lot of red flags and sadly some shocking driving (black and yellow Ginetta maybe the worst in my book but there were plenty of idiots diving down the inside of every corner). Way too much time spent waiting for red flags to be cleared :-(

The worst trackday i have encountered in 10 years, with you on the Ginetta, absolute !! There was a silver M3 doing the same and in conditions like that it was totally irrisponsible, were they not in the briefing?? I was managing three laps max before red flags appeared and pretty much gave up on the pit lane queuing, that was a farce in itself. If you were in a garage near the pit exit yoy were guaranteed front of the line when you.came out. Marshalling was st, organisation was st, 30% of the drivers were st......st day all round id say.as for the cars that binned them in the walls, bks to "bad luck old chap" more like "you drove beyond your talent in bad conditions and your stoppages ruined it for a lot of others"

Still, roll on the next one

Sums the day up pretty well I'd say, there's a lot of similar comments on other forums but no word yet from the organisers.

Pretty much sums up myb thoughts on the day too, I think I'd add some more censored 's though. I was down the far end of the pits with the RX-8's and we were screwed trying to queue to get on track.

HaylingJag, I had a wander up the paddock at lunch and saw the Jag in the garage but nobody was around at the time. The car looks great, I assume it's a bit different to hustle something that big roud a track! I didn't get to see you out on track unfortunately, except for one time where you were just joining the circuit as I went past the blend line.

The day was a shambles of organisation, the queue to get on track was shocking and some of the behavious on the circuit was piss poor, I'm not surprised there were as many red flags as there were!!. I'm guessing they'd over subscribed the day, why wasn't it turned into a sessioned day when it became obvious that people weren't getting on.

I saw the black and yellow Ginetta on the sighting laps and it was all over the track, we thought maybe something was broken!?!? I guess it was causing more issues later on in the day?

I'll not be rushing back to a day organised through OpenTrack, that's for sure!

Agree with the above. Marshalls did as best they could so well done to the Silverstone team on that front. As far as open track are concerned - I'll not be booking with them again. Very poor planning - booking that many cars on. A winter track day can never go well. Queuing to get on track - fine if it's only a few mins but not like yesterday where minimum 20 mins was required without taking into account red flags.

Finally, that Gineetta driver was a complete weapon. Shouldn't be allowed on circuit, and amazed he wasn't black flagged.

Worst trackday ever.

In the rain, I can accept red flags as not everyone is a god at the wheel and it was bloody slippery out there yesterday. Silverstone's people did a frankly outstanding job clearing red flag incidents in minutes but the event itself was an absolute shambles. Open pitlane than was never open. 40 minute queues for some people, garages double sold. We booked one and turned up with three cars to find another three wanting to share.

Ironically, the red flags were actually useful in bringing those out, in and clearing the huge queue in the pitlane. Probably around an hour of actual track time for our car all day and the most I managed was three laps in one go.

Very sorry to hear of the collected experience here. I had hoped to attend but other needs and weather put paid to that.

Do you think these weekend days at the end of the season are in greater demand and hence oversubscribed?

Weekend trackdays are just generally oversubscribed but ive also noticed this year that end of season days are particularly popular - maybe specific to Silverstone as prices for summer months are quite high so prices most people out.

I went to a Goldtrack day at Silverstone two weeks ago on a Monday - quite wet but it ran very well and track behaviour was very very good considering how slippery it was.

They may well be in demand but it's entirely down to the organiser whether they are over-subscribed or not. With that many cars, and the weather, the organisers should have said, 'sorry chaps but this weather means we are not allowed to have so many cars on track so we are going to have to session the day.' If they had done this it would have gone a long way to helping. Cars could've been split into groups 1 and 2. Group 1 on track for 5/6 laps (quite enough for a stint in those conditions!) while 2 lined up in the pits. then swaps and repeat.

But they didn't and it was a mess.

Did one of your group 'meet' the Celica driver?

Yes it was one of the owners club cars. Apparently he'd spun, and stalled it as it went round, this unfortunately left him a sitting duck in the middle of the track as the Celica came around who I guess lifted when he saw the obstacle and from that point on was just a passenger.

hi Al,

shame we werent there when you came over, the Jag isnt mine, tis a mate of mine, though i did have a rag out in it, a bit of an experience!! he did say it was better when he put the triple 8's on though.......semis in those conditions made it better!!!!. i was in the red MX5 turbo sharing with my lad. we managed 87 miles on track inc sighting laps.....well short of my 200 miles target of any given trackday. i did have a spin myself in tje afternoon, just gone past a BM 3 series past the Wing and thought the track was drier into the right hander......it wasnt!!.
another point to mention ref the marshalling/briefing.....there were cars out there which were tip toeing round....fair do's but no indicating to allow quicker stuff to pass.this is where i found some of the knobs were diving in as i and others were waiting for signals or straights to overtake. wont be booking this again on a weekend.

Needed to sleep on this before posting as yesterday I was fuming!!!

However on reflection ....A total and utter shambles of a day. Been doing trackdays for 15 years and never experienced such poor overall organisation or driving standards...was obviously over subscribed by at least twice the amount...never had to "share" a garage before and still have to pay the same price. Have used Javelin and MSV amongst others and never experienced such a pathetic excuse for a track day. At one point I counted 43 cars in the pit lane while the track was live...the numbers speak for themselves.

I was in the Jag which was a complete bh until I swapped the tyres and the number of times I was going sideways around corners when people decided to overtake became laughable...especially when they were spinning into the grass on the next corner.

4 Briefings surely should've sent out the warning signals...never once asked the question of how many newbies to trackdays.

I booked this exact day qith Opentrack last year at the same price and had a great day...yesterday was a wasted £250 and I certainly won't be using or recommending Opentrack to anyone...think Mr Opentrack should apologise to one and all of us before we start the FB protest! Rumours are he was saying "what do you expect for the cheapest Silverstone day"...I'd rather pay more and get on track for more than 10 mins at a time thank you very much!
