We are planning on visiting the ring on a Friday in May as part of annual European driving tour. In years past, we have gone at the weekends and getting a lap in the BMW ring taxi was easy to book. However, looking at the site, it would appear that the ring taxi is suspended for 2017

http://www.bmw-motorsport.com/en/fan-area/driving-...

- (not sure if this is for the whole year), and as the track will only be open in the evening makes me wonder the best way of getting a few laps in. This year I'm taking a car that I'd rather not take on the circuit, so I'm wondering if

Suzuki Swift

Twingo
http://www.rsrnurburg.com/car-rentals/renault-spor...

would be the best option for me and my friends (they've never been round before). Thoughts welcome

Only a month to go before my first Nurburgring trip of the year with Circuit Days on Tuesday 11th April. The McLaren 12C has had it's paint protection film applied and a pre-track inspection carried out, so I'm ready to roll smile

I'll drive down to the Ring from Surrey on 10th and head back to Blighty on 12th April. Staying at the Lindner Casino hotel.

Hi All

Anybody doing the DN events on May 2nd, travelling from up North, ? I'm going on my Tod contemplating going on the overnight ferry from Hull on the Sunday night rather than the slog down to the tunnel

As one of the instructors booked for the day I'd have to agree 100%.
At the moment we have a lot of interested parties taking instruction on the day. Even if you are a driving God there are things that we can offer to help your visit to the Ring better.

Hi Roy, are you booked on for DN17?

I am working on all the DN events marshalling as opposed to instructing. DN offers free instruction, if you need some help talk to Darren or the girls on the desk at the event. If your first time or even if not it's worth it.
I will be about the car-park in hi vis with the long grey hair should you fancy finding me for a chat if you have any specific help needed. Often a chat can put things in place.
Hope this helps
Roy

Thanks Roy. I've only done about 50 laps so still a novice. My first track day at the Ring though, so it'll be a nice change to not be swearing at bikers cutting across me... driving

Reckon you'll get a lot more out of a lap at a DN event than the touristfahrten.

Instruction is odd though; you have to follow the instructor's car. Can be a bit disconcerting with other cars ducking in between.

Oi, I ride bikes. 50 laps is ok as a lead into a trackday you will find everything now flows and pieces together nicely.
Personally I prefer the sit in with someone instructing model, but follow my leader can be very effective as long as the lead knows exactly where you are with regard your ability and expectations.
Come say hello.

And impatient Italians don't try to get in between instructor and student at the apex of Tiergarten.

Lots of my friends and family are too. Most bikers are fine, I'm on about the idiot tourists who've only done a few laps cutting across the 'racing' line as I'm about to overtake them - I then jump on the brakes and lose all momentum (cos I don't wanna kill a biker - my old E36 328i didn't have the poke to worry even touring bikes), they then accelerate away and I'm all over them at the next corner... irked

I'm hovering around the 8.52 mark at the moment - the biggest problem is only coming once or twice a year and only doing 5-10 laps per visit, you learn so much more when doing multiple laps in a day than 1 or 2...

Plus, now I've sorted my brakes (much more confidence to lean on them), fitted fresh dampers and swapped my MPSS for Cup 2s.

Should be fun, can't wait!

Only 2 weeks to go before departing Blighty for the Circuit Days event at the Nurburgring on 11 April. It will be my first track day in the McLaren 12C so I'm going to take it steady (he says now), especially if its damp or wet. Please don't let it be damp or wet.

2 weeks today until the Circuit Days trackday biggrin

Just giving the Golf a 4 wheel alignment today using the ever faithful `string method` having just finished a brake fluid flush and all it needs then is a wash before loading it onto the trailer later this week. It`s very satisfying having nothing whatsoever left to do 2 weeks before the trackday byebye
