I've only done it once (in a race prepared Saxo) and with only 130 bhp it was actually quite boring as needed much more power to find any sort of challenge round the back of the circuit it was just foot to the floor and steer, after many years wanting to drive it having watched in car in Btcc I was left underwhelmed.

Tips
1. Noise test is set very low even though it's got a busy airfield in the middle of the circuit you won't get on with a noisy exhaust.
2. The first part of the complex needs to be taken very steady, it just draws you in though. Go in too deep and understeer here will kill your front tyres and you will be slow out of the next corner onto the fast bits.

Check your car is mechanically sound before you go; check fluid levels; check tyres pressures - drop a few PSI before you start; check the above things throughout the day; start slow; don't crash

As with most short tracks, easy to learn, hard to master.
Ive been twice with same TDO and they had apex cones which looked very odd, but once up to speed they make sense. Should be taking church flat at ~100 in an MX, but build to it as it can bite. Dont be afraid to use the kerbs on the last chicane.
Who have you booked with?

Check your tyres through the day and seriously consider swapping the front left to the rear at lunchtime. It really takes a hammering round there.

Thanks for the replies smile

I'm doing it with IAM as a "Skills day", we get an instructor for some of it which will help, but useful tips above, looking forward to getting the car up to some decent speeds, and seeing it handle on bends. The car will enjoy the cobwebs being blown out as not had much use over the winter! hoping for a dry day!

Do not use the kerbs on the last chicane into the start finish straight if you like your wheels and wheels bearings, the kerbs are very aggressive. Coming into the chicane head for the flood light (this looks off line) brake in a straight line and turn in

church is flat out, marshals post is the apex

off the top of my head, my circuit notes are at home

Only if you exceed track limits. They are fine for the 'track' part of the kerb.

APOLOGIES FOR THE VOLUME. Turn your speakers down first.
It was flat in my Golf at the time, but not when I hit the bump mid corner half a bit wider than usual ! eek

I didn`t have the skill to save it once it went.

No way would it be flat now I`ve added boost biggrin

You were lucky I followed a healey 3000 through there flat out he had a similar moment and there was nothing salvageable off the car. It's still very fast "flat out" corner though

A standard ish Mx5 should be fine flat as cant imagine it reaching speeds to make it hairy.

Hi Folks,

I had a cracking day out, they restricted the speed limit to "about 90" and put in a couple of chicanes, so that by about 90 in the MX5 i had to think about braking to get through the cones.

The IAM people provided an instructor between 2 people, and we did 10-15 minutes each.....enough for the brakes to be getting a wee bit on the hot side.

We did not have to wear crash helmets which was nice. Having the instructor next to me advising me on the correct lines, and most importantly where not to lift off, using the width of the track to help build the speed up was very good. It was his first time in an MX5 and i think the grip, and braking performance impressed him .

For any "novice" taking their own car on a circuit it was ideal, very controlled and great to be moaning that an Aston Martin was holding me up!....several times.
