Track day for experienced drivers

Speed and expertise expected at Brands

Brands Hatch
Brands Hatch
MotorSport Vision is to hold a set of track days for experienced track day drivers, the first taking place next month.

They'll be open pit lane with a maximum of 22 cars on-circuit, organiser Alex Baker said he hoped "it should prove to be a really good day for those who want to be out on circuit with others of a similar ability and speed. The limitations on numbers should ensure that there is no crowding on circuit and also guarantee that everyone gets as much circuit time as possible.

"It is made clear on our Web site that novices should not book onto this event as a higher standard of track driving ability will be expected."

Where: Brands Hatch (indy)

When: 11th December

Price: £169

This will appear to a few egos, but I'm not sure it will improve the quality of the driving on track. Experienced doesn't necessarily mean good and very often the incidents on track are from those drivers who over-estimate their abilities.

So it's not open pitlane then.

sounds like open pit lane to me .. that's how they operate .. they let the next car out when one of the 22 on track comes back into the pits .. it would be carnage otherwise.
what open pit lane means is not sessioned.

I know that. Just seems a bit like trying to make as much cash out of a supposedly open pitlane day as possible. To me, open pitlane means just that. There's the track, get on with it. Not "sorry got a few too many cars out at the moment".

If someone thinks he's too fast to be on the circuit with "normal" cars and drivers, he should either go racing or get a surgical ego removal.

We have decided to run this event so that those drivers who know the track day rules and therefore what is expected of them, have a chance to get out on circuit together and not be held up by inexperienced track drivers.

Obviously novice drivers can be a little nervous about driving on circuit the first few times and therefore may not move out of the way as quickly as others. This is why we are discouraging them from particpatiing on this track day and have specific Novice Only days.

The idea of limiting the numbers is so that there is no overcrowding on circuit with several fast cars driving round.

If anyone has any queries then please feel free to ask. My email address is alex.baker@motorsportvision.co.uk

Was just about to book, then realised it was just the Indy circuit..........

Bit short and sweet IMO.

I've now got visions of Alex rating all the drivers in the pit lane before they go out...

It's a very subjective thing... I get lots of trackday bookings from boys who want to go in the advanced group. On gentle (!) quizzing it turns out that although they are, of course, undisputed gods of the road, when it comes to actual, real on-track experience in their own car they're just a little less experienced than they thought.

You have to be very careful with boy's fragile pride when it comes to that!!!

I've never been to a track day where the number admitted equals the number allowed on track at any one time. When most cars run for only 25 to 30% of the day (drivers choice) why would an organiser not put a multiple onto the allowable on track figure.

With 50 cars allowed and 22 on track, I doubt anyone would be queing for long - so open pit lane would mean just that.

Agree. There may be a little queueing first thing & maybe first thing after lunch, but apart from that I'm sure the day will run smoothly. Also, most experienced TDers know not to rush out first thing anyway, particularly in December. Let someone else check out the grip !
