Hi, I'm going to my first rtack day at Brands Hatch next Wednesday evening.

www.motorsportvision.co.uk/trackdays/trackdays.asp?circuit=all&type=Car

It's only a short session, i've booked and instructor, and it's for beginners only. Why not come along?

I think my first track day experience should be in broad day light with no clouds and a dry circuit.

Im looking at doing a half day on the 12/4 any other takers? I dont mind morning or afternoon?

Tim,

that looks the nuts good sound track as well. I'm going to give these people a shout. Like someone said though is there track etiquette or is someone in a wicked PUG going to try and push me out? I'm not ready to write my car off yet........
If it were my AMV8 I would ensure that I attended a day organised by AM or my dealer with other like minded owners. Rich...

I understand, Bund. I might feel the same if i was taking the AM, however I have a full day Ride Drive on Monday, so will feel well prepared for the session.

I'll let you know how i get on

On my first track day I made the mistake (among others) of not taking out insurance.

Foolishly, I told myself that a) I won't hit anything and b) If I do hit something, what's the worst that could happen?

Well, suffice to say, I found out after the fact that the cost of repairs these days is a *lot* more than I thought.

Oh, and that you can spin the wheels of a Chimaera at over 100mph by flooring it (wet track).

The Recipe: Novice, rain, 300bhp, fast track, rear-wheel drive, tyrewall very close, fibreglass body.

Did you prang it then?! commiserations. However, did you honestly expect any different if you floor a 300hp car in the wet!? I think the phrase that Willie Green gave on a sighting lap of Goodwood once was, 'treat the throttle like a tube of toothpaste; squeeze it gently'

PS which track were you at?

You guessed it. Goodwood.

It was on the main 'straight'. I caught the infield tyrewall about 10 feet before open grass. It wasn't my day. Never mind, I get the car back in a few weeks.

Hope you survived unscathed? Did you hit the tyres hard/quickly?

Ok i now know there is an AMOC track day at mallory park later this month or Francis has very nicely invited me to Bedford and ed invited me to crash my car in the dark but i think he's done quite a few so im not sure if i should start with a novice morning or afternoon at brands.

This is how it looks so far.

Airfields = less to hit but stone chip city
Tracks = not chip city but alot more to hit
AMOC day = they probably wont like the look of me and accuse me of stealing the car

its tough but i have to start somewhere.............

Except there is nothing to hit (bar one corner) at Bedford, honestly it's the safest place to do your first track day. Even the run-offs graduate through those concrete paving blocks that grass grows through onto just grass so no gravel.

Its nearly four miles round. Depending on arrangements there are unlikely to be more than thirty cars on track at once. That's loads of space.

You'll actually get lonely...

They will divide the cars up into groups as you will see when I was there we were split into 4 groups of about 10 cars (40 total) each lined up between the cones and allowed out in spells. By the afternoon it had settled down and they simply declared an open pit lane. It was no problem. Rich...

its open pit lane all day.
have done non-goldtrack days here with 100 cars with no problems at all. 4 miles is alot of track. just avoid the first 15 mins of a session and you'll spend half the time all on your lonesome

Hey Bund,
Just managed to deal with the technology required to get the pictues posted from Brands Hatch (see below!).

Having not done track days before, i was, like you rather nervous. I went to the Brands Hatch Novice evening on Wednesday,

www.motorsportvision.co.uk/trackdays/trackdays.asp?circuit=all&type=Car

and can strongly recommend it.

Fantastic fun, not too long and most of the other drivers were novices too (notable exceptions in a Noble and a heavilly modded Jag XJS). Pay a little extra, and you get an instructor in the passenger seat for a few laps, which was most helpful.

And i met NJW77 - another PHer - Hi Nick
