How was it there this weekend?

How does the new traffic flow work on the exit work?

Any 'mega' exotica to gawp at?

was checking the web-cam over the weekend and it looked very wet.
I spotted a couple of exotica.

I'll be going out there in June, hopefully the sun will be out then.

Was there Fri/Sat/Sun with 3 Elises. Friday & Saturday were mostly dry with some great laps. (One of our group did 30 odd laps!) the traffic was a nightmare in the car park but the new layout gets people back out much quicker and the barrier on the track works very well to stop the entrance/exit grinding to a halt when the track is closed.

On the negative side I have heard there we a few deaths on Saturday.

That's terrible news. Condolences to anyone touched by this.

I do not think that anyone died on Saturday... But I may be wrong. Certainly a lot of wrecked Porsches, BMWs and other stuff... Did 60 laps, which brings my total for the year to 75 so far... The car held up well... Bring on the end of May and another 5 days of laping...

It would appear the reports of fatalities was false. 60 laps is an impressive stint, over how many days did you manage that?

Reports of fatalities between Friday and Monday on the Nordschleife are unfounded, but there were many shunts.

There was a Brit who stuffed his car at Kleine Karrussel, only to drive back to the car park with fluids pouring everwhere. Needless to say, several bikers came off because of that selfish and unecessary act. Fortunately the Police gave him something to think about.

Was there in my VXT. Was the first time i'd been and was an awesome experience. Weather wasn't great, but dried up quite quickly each morning after a night of rain.

Did see a number of smashes - most notably a lovely silver 993 RS that was parked outside our hotel door the night before, and then on the back of a recovery truck with the front-end missing later the next day.

The guy in the E30 I know (well, spoken to a few times). Saw him drive back into the carpark as we were leaving to drive home. Seemed a very stupid thing to do, and not really sure why. Trying to find out from him on a forum I know he posts on but he's being very quiet about that side of it. Knowing the type of person he is, probably finding it hard to take the hit to his ego...

I am back myself since monday night, we flew over and rented.
Its a fnatastic place, i was there last year too.
the problem with the place is the popularity and the number fo people who have never been on track and think they can fly aaround there.
As some of the more experieced drivers round there say you need a couple of hundered laps to know the track.
On a couple of points raised i have to agree some of the uk drivers seemed to have very little respect for others, some were fantasticly mannerly too.
The bad driving i would nearly put down to lack of experience, but it will cost money if you cut someone off and hit the armco!
The other thing i have is the lad in the E30, all i can say is what a dick.
He lost it, fair enough lots of us have before on all kinds of tracks, hit the armco(which didnt look too bad) and stopped.
Any sort of a car person will tell you when the boot lid is 2 inches over to the left and the bonnet much the same the car is screwed. at that point he was looking €130 recovery fee and maybe some armco. but instead he decided to drop oil, water and god knows what else all the way through the last set of right hand corners. He made what i would consider one of the worst errors of judgment i have seen in a long time in trying to make a break for it. I was due to leave 2 hours after the incident happened, but due to his actions the track was closed for an hour and i got one more lap before i had to leave.

The rest of the weekend was great, some smashes and spins but its something that always happens at the ring, roll on my next trip!!!!
And i would recomend renting a car to anyone who is goign for the first time as you wont go as hard in a rental car as your own so less likely to have an incident

I didn't see too much in the way of bad mannered driving, but I was probably one of the slower ones most of the weekend so wouldn't have really fallen victim to much of it anyway. That, and I tried to pick quieter times to go out in.

I know when I did see cars approaching quickly from behind, I immediately indicated right and let them past. Rather get them through and carry on enjoying my lap than have the stress of them right behind me. I know one chap in an S2000 actually came up to me on the Sunday to comment on how he was grateful for letting him past so quickly on one of the laps we met on. I don't see the point in holding anyone up. If they've caught me up they're obviously quicker so just let them get on with it.

The guy in the E30 claims that he wasn't losing oil, just water. And that the marshalls were fine about it. I didn't stay to find out, but agree he should have just waited for recovery, judging from the state of his car.

.. not exactly what I'd call driveable, no matter what he thinks.

We didn't time our laps most of the weekend, until the last couple of sessions before we left. Managed a 9:25 on my 10th lap which I was extremely happy with. Anything under 10 minutes would have been fine so to get half a minute under was fantastic. Certainly I'd think I could reach into the high 8's next time I visit. I managed to get footage of the lap on my bullet cam as well if anyone was interested. It was very quiet on the track which helped a lot. I think a lot of people left on the Sunday, plus it was early morning when we went out...

Thought I'd add - in answer to the mega supercars to gawp at - a rather nice black Carrera GT turned up (sadly didn't go out) for a while on the Sunday (?) i think...

Also a couple of Gallardos (one black, one orange) were nice to see (think at least the orange one went out...)

Why are you timing yourself? Are there any prizes for this? I also noticed your number plate, it was quite interesting

P.S. I would concentrate on the lines and not the outright speed/lap time.

I am agreed on the timing thing, its not a good idea, learn the limes then time yourself, i have about 50 ish laps done at this stage and only timed a couple

Oh, i'm not that worried about the timing thing. Tbh, I wasn't aware my passenger was timing me until the last corner!

But I know the car should be capable of a faster time, which in turn means that my lines could be better to allow me to carry more speed through the corners. I've watched my video lap back a few times now and seen a few spots that can obviously be improved upon, but my main aim is to keep doing laps and learning the track until I know it like the back of my hand. The speed and lines will come with this....

That aside, I can't believe I missed the GT go out!! And I never saw the F40!!! Dammit!

The internet rumour mill always talks about deaths ..... not a good thing where the ring is concerned, especially when there weren't any.

Nice lap, but were you aware that its against the rules to film on a TF with punishment being a lifetime ban? How they'd find / trace someone I'm not sure, but there are large signs up everywhere!

Its only a season ban and they are quic to catch cameras. They found my mini one, about half the size of a bullet cam.
