Im planning to do some flying to Koln and drive to the ring type trips this year and was wondering if im only taking a rucksack and a helmet will I be able to get on the plane with it all as "hand luggage"?

Anyone else done/tried this?

As per Ben Lovejoys site, technically, he argued it's a 'hat'! See trip 46 report for details of his method/excuses

I reckon you;ll be fine.

Unless of course you look like you can pronounce mujahudeen in which case your lid'll be crushed under some suitcases if you're lucky & if you're not so lucky you get a new state-sponsored orange, er, racing overall.

Thats true.. I'm sure I'd have more trouble trying to explain why im travelling with a rucksack rather than why i think I'll need a crash helmet on an aeroplane.

..maybe i'll stick with driving!

I put my helmet in a coventional bag out of sight as it was too big for my rollalong. No problems with security or x-rays, though my IKEA scissors (for the black tape to cover the hire car company logos) got removed. Too dangerous.Helmet in bag fitted in the overheads ok but not under the seat.
Checked in the rollalong

I often take a helmet and separate bag. Helmets don't usually fit in the overhead lockers, so I keep it between my legs. I've done this about 20 times and never been questioned.

No way would I let them put my helmet in the hold.
