You don't have to thrash it. You could (and should!) take it easy at first.

If you want a cheap, newish motor for not much bucks. MG range, you can get a newish ZR or ZS for next to nowt. There is a ZR 160 bhp or the ZS 180 bhp. I got a 53 ZT 190 (now at 245) for 6 grand, only 17k on the clock. Worth thinking about !!!!
