useless. no longer available anyway. the scam, sorry "scheme" was attached to a mandatory inspection from the garage providing the insurance policy at your cost. crazy that a garage would be an insurance broker. properly regulated? i doubt it.
Very helpful - much appreciated.agtlaw said:

Andrew, do your insurers still provide third party cover during TF days? I have absolutely no intention of asking you who they are, but Im curious as to whether theyre still offering the cover to their existing clients. The Crack Fox said:
Another alternative to a TF session on the nordschleife is a 20 minute session on the GP circuit, costs c.€40 and there's loads of lovely run off. Plus, it's so badly advertised, you'll probably only share the track with half dozen others. Sorted
Though since that is also on a "TF" basis (i.e. no briefing, no disclaimer, open to the public, 3rd party cover assumed) I imagine the insurance situation is much the same. I also suspect arguing that the Nurburgring GP circuit is *not* a track would be quite difficult.Update:
Did a couple of laps driving as though I was uninsured rather than as if I'd stolen it, and absolutely loved it.
Sadly I wasn't really in the car for it (Saab 9-3 Convertible, which is a little boat-like in its handling) but I'm very concerned to find myself browsing cheap track toys on eBay this morning. Oh dear.

Off to have some fun on the 27th and 28th on a TF day in my stepsons car
(We were gonna take two cars but the costs just kept totting up!)
Quote from an e-mail:-
You have the same cover as if you were driving on UK roads, as you will not be racing , and as part of the Nurburgring is a public road, so it has the same cover as any other European and UK road.
Its out there... No additional premium!
I said to my stepson I would post it on here and he preffered if I didnt... He too doesnt want them swamped with requests / F*ck off big claims!

Echo some of the sentiments already stated. Gang of us went on a TF back in 2010, couple of guys had taken their own cars to take round but I decided to rent a car for half a day 6 laps in a vw scirocco, cost about £600 all in laps/car/insurance.
Had a great time, however was a noticeably different experience in the hire car compared to our own cars, much more enjoyable in the hire car as knew I was insured (yes was a £8000 excess, but then it stopped me driving like a cock.) and I also didn't have to drive the bugger all the way back home, which was a concern for one of the guys after a particularly rough lap around the carousel, his back box on the exhaust decided to fall off (thankfully not on the track) so we had to spend the rest of the afternoon trying to locate a garage that could weld it back on.
So would certainly recommend the hire car if you can afford it. Be warned and take advice from others on here, drive with a shotgun passenger keeping eyes out for traffic coming from behind. The place is full of brain dead morons thinking they can drive like Vettel, when they patently can't. You will see people like this hanging out of the Armco all afternoon.
If you drive like a cock you will certainly come a cropper, saw couple of Brits racing each other in a mitsubishi evo and an Audi S4, ended well- Evo t barred into the armco and written off, loads of Armco damaged @ 100 Euro / meter, flat bed truck to retrieve car from track, think he said it was 800 euro for that and then gazillions to get the car repatriated back to blighty. The only positive was no one was seriously hurt.
Go, be careful, treat the track and other drivers with respect, don't practice on an xbox/ playstation as you will think you know the track - you wont. We had a fantastic and safe weekend, still talk about it now.

Ah,a voice of reason at last. It DOES make a lot of sense hiring as does having someone alongside to keep an eye on the other mirror,on"hero" watch at least.A newcomer will have an awful lot on his mind trying to learn some of it,[you'll not learn it all in a day] TF days,as already said, can get VERY busy with just about every type of driver you can imagine.

You're prepared to lose your house for a drive in the country? Wow.
Not really. I came into this world with nothing and will happily depart the same way. So despite having done alright for myself I am a bit of a socialist at heart. Nobody is going to live forever and what are you going to do with it when you are dead -???It may be a drive in the country for you but for thousands of others it is not.

Do they check insurance documents when you enter the ring?
I've spent the past few hours on the phone and no one will supply third party cover.
I can get my own car covered but not third party.
What do people do? hope they don't crash into someone else?
I can only assume you have read none of the above thread then.I've spent the past few hours on the phone and no one will supply third party cover.

God I bet that was fun!
That sounds about right.
They either hope as you suggest. Or they book a track day where the ring is no longer open to anybody who turns up and pays for a few laps. Then they buy the insurance you can get, and there is no 3rd party risk to them in the "road law" sense.
Or they hire a car from one of the ring rental type companies. RSR, rent4ring etc.
