Ran 57.2's fairly consistently in a vx220 NA (145bhp) on a cold (1 degree) and busy track.
Short video of a 57.1s & 57.3s in my vx220 here:-

Hoping to get under 56s on a warmer track with less traffic. If that doesn't work then a supercharger conversion should see it comfortably under 55s evil

59.8 in my near standard clio 172 on my first time in anger round brands. Sadly the video glitched. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U9hYfSgD2_0
Going back on saturday to try and knock a second off as the data recorder showed an optimum lap of a high 57.
Sadly the weather may work against me.. fingers crossed!

Looks good. Was you able to use race chrono to figure out how you can make up time and get into the 57's?

All in the last sector after surtees. I'm not 100% confident as there were laps the racechrono data looks out, (I had to hide the phone of course as timings not allowed).
This time I will be using a remote GPS reciever so I can keep the phone anywhere which should improve accuracy.

May have to wait till next year anyway as looks like the weather might spoil any attempt to improve this weekend.

If you can get some tuition on Saturday from one of the instructors I'm sure you could take a second off. I had some instruction last time I was there and it really helped. The surprising finding was that I was turning in WAY too early at paddock and Graham Hill.

With regard to surtees, after watching the video I'd suggest you could take more speed into surtees and through maclaran. I'm not on the stickiest of tyres (federal 595 rsr's) but I usually only have a very small lift on turn into surtees and get back on the power right through maclaran. Race chrono showed my speed as 85mph at the end of Cooper straight to 81mph in surtees and then 90mph through maclaren before standing on the brakes. There's a surprising amount of grip as it's camberred slightly.
I'm sure I could take it completely flat on a warmer day (or with more courage).

I'm no expert though so feel free to ignore my suggestion and don't blame me if you spin :-)

53.2 on my 70hp KTM Supermoto and 48.4 on my GSXR1000, pootling around by comparison to the fast boys.

I've yet to try it in a car.

Are you a professional racer on a full on race bike then?

It was in my Laptimer so I'm claiming it, though I usually do 50s and the occasional 49 when I'm feeling good with fresh tyres. Brand's lap record is 45.1. 3+ seconds is a long time around Brands Indy which is tiny and simple with few corners by comparison, plus I live 30 mins away and I must have done 1,000 laps so I know it really well. At somewhere like Cadwell I'm 10+ seconds off their times.

You know that apart for the top few, the BSB guys are ordinary Joes, right? Any wker can race in BSB if they have the funds, my best ever lap, and only 48, is still slower than the last placed guy in the race. Not as far fetched as you're making out.

My bike was Superbike spec, as was my Supermoto. If you check, the best lap on the 'moto is right up there as well.

Don't be a hater smile

I was aware of the lap record at 45 hence the question. 48 sounded a bit quick for 'pootling on a gsxr' but the fact it's superbike spec and you're local makes more sense - presumably on slicks with tyre warmers? You must be at the sharp end of the fast group?

Some seriously quick time times there! How do you log on the bike? Is it GPS based or flash headlight to reset timer?

I'm very modest so the pootling bit was laden with somewhat dry sarcasm, easily overlooked.

Here's a pic of my old K4 and the 'moto at Brands. I only ever run slicks and warmers, though warmers actually unnecessary as the tyres normaly cool down whilst waiting at the end of pitlane. I'm a flash git so use them anyway.

I was in the 52s and 53s with thise bike, it only had 190hp ish and stock forks with reworked internals. The K9 was really flash and and a proper Superbike spec with 210hp. Straight into 51s and the 50s. A year later 49s with new tyres and ideal weather conditions and then the single 48. Timing was via a beacon on pit wall under the arm of my crew. He knows not to walk up and down the pit wall lol, the marshals used to confiscate zip tied beacons.

I quit bikes a few years ago after a big crash racing the KTM, I still can't feel some parts of my lower back now. Cars for me now, I have a 600hp Caterham to use next year, an R400 for the last couple.

Sorry to hear about the accident - hope you fully recover!

I did brands a few times on a bike and got to 60s laps on a road spec RSV mille but was running out of talent - the bike would have gone much quicker! You clearly have talent on a bike!

I stopped doing track days on bikes as it all seemed to get very serious - most bikes were trailered and run on slicks plus a small mistake can be painful and expensive (I crashed at Rockingham chasing a guy on slicks...). In comparison car days give me the 'fun' as sliding around can be enjoyed rather than feared.

I'm sure a 600bhp Caterham will make you smile! That will be a beast!

Went out on the Monday evening session, hard work considering 50% of the other cars were being driven by morons.

IF A CAR IS FAST APPROACHING YOU FROM BEHIND,PULL OVER!!!!!!!!

I'm surprised that drivers were not pulled in for the shocking standard of driving witnessed.

Anyway I managed to get out when I noticed some of these cars in the pits for a few consistent laps.

Flying lap 1, 1.01.81
Lap 2, 1.00.80
Lap 3, 1.01.75
Lap 4, 1.00.99

Still can't get under the 60 seconds but didn't really mange to get into the zone with all the distractions.

Car was a standard RX8 PZ on standard road tyres and brakes!!!!

Roll on next summers evenings

Really? I always thought that it was the car in front that has control of the line, and that it's up to you to get around safely.

RMA days explicitly state that you shouldn't pull over (unless you're clearly indicating that you are doing so) on the basis that you may be moving into the path of a car that's going around you.

Only done Brands on 4 wheels once for a charity day (in an Ariel Atom). Best laps were around 54/55 secs (didn't enable lap times on data when I overlayed data logger stuff)

We were all briefed before taking to the track and told if you see a faster car approaching from the rear then indicate and pull over to the right hand side of the track so that they can pass. This is indicated by a blue flashing sign around the track for cars approaching and solid blue for an imminent pass.

The fking idiot did not take any notice of said lights and on more than one occasion caused an obstruction.

Just found this old thread...

Have now both managed to pedal Salesy's RX8 PZ around Brands Indy in an identical 59.50 on a proper lap time app which we just left running strapped under a seat, not via a video. Which was spookily similar!! Car is absolutely as it left the factory with List 1a road tyres. Not bad for a £2k car. I would love to try an RX8 with some serious weight stripped out of it and some Toyo 888's. Ours has huge electric leather seats , full trim and a heavy Bose stereo system ) . Very underrated cars.
