I am, lost 10 lbs since xmas! 1.5 miles in 11 minutes 38 seconds is the target. I want to be 60 seconds quicker, at least.

Medical test this Saturday, fitness test is within 28 days of doing that. Still a 24 month wait right now (since sitting the RT a year ago)

Good luck....

I did 8 years in the RN. It was easier to join in my day. You went to the careers office, sat a few exams, did the medical, then a few months later you were walking through the gates for your basic training.

Thanks. It's kind of the same now, just the few months bit is now a few years! I applied around October 2010. Did you enjoy your time in the RN?

Good luck with your PJFT mate. Personally, I don't think you'll be waiting as long as you think, so just keep busy, you'll be fine wink

Thanks mate, I heard the waiting lists are up and down, even the guy at the office said it could be this year or it could be next summer. I'm just keeping my ear out and looking forward to the day I might be able to hand my notice in! Time has flown by though, I sat my RT 25/03/11 smile It's been a bit of a bugger over the last week, I came down with the flu and haven't been able to run, but I'm just getting over that now so plan to gently ease myself back into it next week.

Yes i did enjoy my time. I made some life long friends who I still keep on contact with 20 years after leaving!

The only hard part was the time away. I joined at 16 and loved it, but in my early 20's I met my wife and my priorities changed.

I don't regret joining, and I don't regret leaving.

I began basic training in June last year after a 20 month wait.

Joined HMS Illustrious 4 weeks ago.

It hasn't been easy but certainly the best career decision I've ever made!

If you have any questions about basic training and the new 10 week course, or anything really from another navy newbie, drop me a PM =)

Still in after 26 years, it's a great job that has taken me all over the world. I never imagined the diversity of stuff I would end up doing and places I'd go to (both good and thoroughly unpleasant) when I was in your place.

Hope you both enjoy it smile

Thank you smile I hope all goes well with the next part of my application. Of course nothing is set in stone yet and I need to impress at the selection interview, but here's hoping smile

The long waiting list may be because of the redundancies being finalised, I know RAF wise, that alot of our trade groups had closed up while the list was being put out there. Predictions of 2-3yrs, etc for things to open up again. So I reckon, come June time the flood gates will reopen.

Good luck in the Navy, not a fan of bobbing up and down on the ocean waves myself, prefer the grey winged wonders. smile

A waiting list of 3 years?? In three years you can do a lot. Apprenticeship, Uni, College, Trainee positions the list is endless and you will actually have qualifications that are worth something. Why hold out for the Royal Navy? It isn't as great as everyone thinks it is, and don't listen to the draft dodging scrimshanking recruiters!

In my experience (5yr's as a stoker) it wont, however when being away from home has eventually ground you down and you put your notice in, it'll stand you in great stead for getting a job in civvy street.

It was the best career start I could have chosen at 17, there is a lot of st to put up with (get ready to become and experienced industrial cleaner..!) but for 4 out of the 5 years I enjoyed myself.

It is truly a single mans life, enjoy it, don't be lazy & keep your nose clean and you'll have a great time, just do what your told in training and its fairly straight forward.

Enjoy..!
