I applied for a new job recently and due to the distance involved the interview is via Skype.

I've not really used Skype before so I was wondering if anyone has any tips on how to come across ok on it? I've done the obvious stuff like making sure I've got an uber-long network cable instead of trusting my dodgy wireless, everything in the background is nice and tidy, but its more the whole eye contact and body language and such - I've no idea how to do these on video?

Just look at the camera and don't show your body?

I disabled the webcam on my laptop hehe

Interviewed by CEO, CTO and 2 peers - no one mentioned the need for a camera. Are you sure it's required?

Are you going to use a headset.

We use Skype a lot for colleague to colleague calls, but an interview on Skype seems a bit crap.

Sometimes the "line" can be poor - if it seems rubbish at the start then stop and try again.

Thanks for the suggestions - Skype itself worked fine, as to whether or not I did, I doubt it. It was labelled as a video interview on the email so I kept to that, and as a result I probably came across oddly because I was struggling with when to look at the camera and not the screen, so I probably looked like I spent the entire time avoiding the questions, even though it was only because they were all quite fluffy ones.
Cheers guys, if I failed that it's only because of me being a muppet smile
