Not quite an ideal life though is it? You'd have to be paying me an awful lot of money to be away from home 4 nights a week.

Agree with the above, its looking like they are trying to make you quit by being so unreasonable. If they were this unreasonable normally I would have left a long time ago. If this is new (I.e they havent been this unreasonable before) then i think they are trying to push you out.

They are trying to take advantage of you without it costing them anything - nothing more, nothing less.

I've worked on many 'projects' for various companies and have ALWAYS claimed expenses for commuting and/or accommodation if they are not within a 'reasonable' commute. Your employers are trying to shaft you - 100miles each way cannot be called reasonable.
