Hi All,

I have for a number of years, worked as a freelance marketing consultant, through my own limited company. On a recent trip to Toronto I noticed a number of jobs which fitted perfectly with my experience and knowledge.

As I work for my own Limited company, could I work in Toronto or anywhere else in the world for that matter, without a work permit.....providing the company that wants my services, is happy to pay my company??

Thanks in advance.

This does not answer my specific question which is :

As I work for my own ltd co, do I need a work permit, as My company will be billing the client?

Thanks in advance

Wouldn't it depend on whether you would be deemed to be an employee under their laws? Sounds like it to me.

I'm fairly sure you need a work permit, unless your being in Canada is just for a face to face meeting then you're returning home to do the real work.

I used to work in England for a Canadian company and once, on a visit to head office for a week had to pay Ca$900 to get into the country after mistakenly saying to the imigration official that I was running a training course whilst I was there.

Yes - you need an employment based visa.

As per your linkedin profile which is linked from the same page:

"I left the corporate world at the beginning of 2007 to concentrate on my business interests. Currently I work as a freelance consultant within a global property organisation as well as running my own companies & businesses:

  • Ancient Woodland Ltd
  • Tyrian UK Ltd
  • Thames Executive Cars
  • Buckingham Estates Ltd

  • Ebuy Global Ltd
  • Managing my personal property portfolio"
You might want to change that wink

You absolutely need a work permit. From page 24: Where a Canadian employer has directly contracted for services from a foreign company, the
employee of the foreign company performing the services for the Canadian company requires a work permit.

I work in Canada presently: You need a permit for EVERYTHING, work or not.
