I have the opportunity of being interviewed for a new job. Now this new job is a better position than I currently hold and therefore it will pay more money (around 5k more to be precise), that’s the simple part.

Basically between 2001 and 2008 I was working for a company that my potential boss worked for. Which is fine but she was my junior for four years. Also the general manager of my old company is the gm for the new company. When I left he wasn’t sad to see me leave. We parted on good grounds, he simple just didn’t like me.

So my question is do I put aside the fact that someone who I taught everything to will be telling me what to do (if I get the job of course) and do I work for a gm that doesn’t like me.

Like I said help needed.

I wouldn't be plunging myself into all that for just £5k a year more. I think it could end badly for you. I would look elsewhere.

Worry about that if you get a job offer.

Otherwise the interview is good practice, plus an opportunity to find more about a competitior/client.

Read the other topic here about changing job. In the first 12 months they can fire you for no reason at all (but can not discriminate).

Do you need reliable regular money? Then stay. If you can survive/get another job pronto having being fired after 4 weeks, and fancy a crack at the bigger salary if it works out, go!

My theory is that he's already decided he didn't want to work with those people once before; why go back to doing so again for an extra £100 a week gross?

It's more like only £70 net if you're a lower rate tax-payer. Less if the salary takes you into higher rate of tax...!

When I'm hiring, it's 40% competencies, 60% strategic fit. No point in hiring the best practitioner if they don't fit the culture of the organisation or won't get on with everyone.
