I wouldn't do the job for all the money in the world!

A relative of mine is a partner in a country GP practice, they also have a joined pharmacy next to the surgery. She has been there since she was 26. She works 10 hours a day for three days a week and 'earns' £130k for little stress.

Every lawyer, solicitor, barrister and QC that I have met or had 'professional dealings with have been either incompetent or a tosser.

The funny thing was it was the Barrister and the QC that were more incompetent, I even got the judge to admit it!

In all honesty the relevance of the reply to the topic smile

I get that there are Dr's earning a lot of money for not a lot of work.

I get that there are some prize prunes who work in the law, although the fact that every one you have come across is either incompetent or a tosser suggest that you haven't had dealings (of any sort) with many or that the issue there is not necessarily always on their side of the table.

But none of that above seems to go any way towards answering the question of if the law is well paying or not.

Please do not take this post as a dig at you, I am a great one for splurging out a load of thoughts and then occasionally posting them before reading through and hanging together into a cohesive post. smile

I would agree, GPs make good money. Of course the training is relatively hard but once established mostly they write prescriptions or refer to specialists.

I could see that by your previous non descriptive post...tumbleweed

The post was constructive towards the thread, the thread was discussing work life balance and the hours that are invested to earn a good living. I provided an example where this can be bettered. Thoroughly relevant.

Unfortunately though, you have now made the thread change more, but that's what happens, get over it!

Absolutely, apparently she only just scraped through the training, she had to resit a few exams I believe.

I wasn't aware that there was anything I needed to get over. I thought that there was something insightful in your post and was hoping to draw it out, it seems I was mistaken.

Sorry if I touched a nerve!

My mate is around 26 and works at an American law firm in London and made 60k after 2-3 years I think (NQ?)

As has been said though - very hard work and long hours but he is the type that loves it.

I know a few lawyers.

One is very senior in a London firm and earns over £1m. Another is a partner of a large firm specialising in corporate real estate and he earns circa £150-200k.

Both are well worth their fees

9 pages and a 4000 word CV? I don't think he knows what he does either!

My first job after leaving school was at an electronics supplier. I remember a retired chap, who must have been about 80 coming in to leave his CV as he wanted a part time job to keep him occupied. The list of patents that he had obtained was 2 pages long, and he'd worked in some very interesting places. Oh, and he had a letter of reference from John Logie Baird. I know they say try to keep CVs to 2 pages, but it wouldn't have got near to being complete. It's still the most memorable CV I've seen.
