I've gone for a higher level job for the local authority that I currently work for (within same department)
I had the interview on Tuesday and was told that I would be contacted on Friday if successful.
My boss has told me that a reference request has come through yesterday (Weds).
I don't want to get my hopes up as I don't think I interviewed as well as I could but does this augur well?
What is standard order for job offer/reference gathering?
Thanks chaps.

Not sure about how it works in local authority, but in education when we (governing body) were recruiting a new head teacher, we asked for references before the interview stage even. Seems odd to me, but they were the rules.

If I were you I wouldn't read too much into it, just in case it is a matter of process rather than a next stage.

Sorry, should have said at the end of my post - good luck with it anyway.

Fingers crossed it's good news. They may however have a number of candidates who they're interested in and the references themselves may be the tipping point.
