We are looking for an inspector to work in our busy CNC machine shop based in Buckingham.

The company manufacture composite patterns and moulds mainly for the motorsport industry. The ideal candidate must be self motivated with a keen eye for detail.

Knowledge of inspection arms and software (Faro) would be an advantage.
Please message me with your CV and references if you are interested.

Thanks

  • Devils advocate: inspection is non-value added - If you get the manufacturing process right you shouldn't need to inspect...

I lurrve this sort of statement!!! it always produces lots of work for me when the process falls apart.
The value is in the assurance of an inspected item, that it complies with the stated/legal requirement.
Nothing ever goes right all the time!!!

Correct! Some days we have over 30 jobs going out of the door - all 1 offs. There is no way they are leaving without being checked, I would rather make the job a day late than a customer phone up and say it was wrong.

Absolutely - hence the 'devil's advocate'.

You have to check one-offs. The 'checking is waste' only really applies to large runs, and only really applies to not checking every item. Of course you need to check output to ensure the 'process' is still producing end product within spec.

Keep it stiff

Reminds me of a certain story from British manufacturing in the 1970’s. A British manufacturer decided, for the first time, to source parts from a supplier in Japan having been persuaded by their reputation for excellence. Their purchase order specified that 95% of the parts should within the defined tolerance. A month or so later the consignment of parts arrived. They opened the box to find 95 perfectly produced parts, a smaller box containing 5 other parts along with a note that read “Dear customer, we thank you for your valued order, we are not sure why you wanted 95 perfect parts and 5 defective parts but here they are, we look forward to being of service to you again.”
