I'm the only person who I've ever met or know of that does the sort of thing I do, the way we do it if that makes sense. I'm sure there are more, but it's rare.
I'm the head of Sales and Customer Service - an odd mix for a start for a firm of 'faceless' (or non face-to-face might be a better term) correspondence Accountants.
It’s very rare of an Accountancy Firm to work like we do, but it works.
It’s incredibly rare for an Accountancy Firm at actually ‘sell’ their services, most thing it’s a bit ‘crass’ I think.
And if they do it’s incredibly rare they market and sell their services the way we do.
And rare they do it on a national level, without actually having regional offices.
When I started there wasn’t a blueprint for it, no ‘how to sell a unique Accountancy services’ manual, I spend the first 6 months just running trial and error to work out how it could be done.
Works well though we’re enjoying huge growth and customer retention rates
Nothing truly unique about what I do, just the combination of factors that make it odd.
Im sorry but its true what they about accountants then ......... ;)I'm the head of Sales and Customer Service - an odd mix for a start for a firm of 'faceless' (or non face-to-face might be a better term) correspondence Accountants.

I used to be one of 2 people in the world that maintained the only 2 machine like it in existance.
I think only one works since the company decided to relocate quite recently
Funnily enough, I was usually the only one maintaining them because the other person was my boss!
You can't be vague like that!! What the hell is this machine?I think only one works since the company decided to relocate quite recently

Worldwide:
With an equivalent title: Loads.
With one or more of my "skills": Quite a lot.
With all my "skills": Not many.
Doing what I do with them: Probably just me.
It depends how far you drill down into what you do. Most people are unique at some level. Maybe a better question is how many single people could replace you completely if you got knocked down by a bus.
For me, that's in the "not many" category, although in a previous life, it was "quite a lot."

Worldwide, another 6 people doing the same job I do. With another 6 who could step in, in an emergency.
We've just hired a new bod, who is very experienced with the product we support; we think it'll be 6 mnths or so until he's up to speed fully.
You're number 4 in SPECTRE?We've just hired a new bod, who is very experienced with the product we support; we think it'll be 6 mnths or so until he's up to speed fully.

There are 8 of us in this office and with our competitors world wide I would guess a further 20.
I cover the US with maybe 4 from the other companies.
I design and sell train couplers and crash protection systems.
Keep that quiet; furthering the progress of the train. Or hang on, are you a double agent, improving the train in order to free up the roads for PHers?I cover the US with maybe 4 from the other companies.

Anyway I'm a history student and will most probably end up a history teacher with a few months of earning money in a call centre or similar in between finishing the former and starting training for the latter. Least unique post so far I reckon!

We do have 2 or 3 competitors, but we have some pretty unique features.
Shopping cart abandonment remarketing, if anyone cares.

He is not a number, he is a free man!
Anything but. Although now I've got had my green card for more than 18 months, I don't have to pay the company back for the associated costs, so I'm more free than I was. As someone else above, once you get into support for a specialised product (or you're the developer and have to support your product), there are not that many people doing that role, or who could step in.

It's makes a heavy duty water proof zipper. As used in (very) deep sea diver suits among other things. What sets it apart from any other is the size of metalic elements, and the fact that they are all riveted.Gassing Station | Jobs & Employment Matters | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
