It may be helpful for those with employment law problems and not enough money to hire a lawyer to know that legal advice and representation can sometimes be obtained through the Free Representation Unit (FRU).

FRU is an excellent organisation founded by student barristers in 1972. Its volunteers are law students and junior lawyers, and they represent people in employment tribunals and some other fora. I cut my teeth with FRU, and had done about 30 cases before I even started my pupillage.

FRU celebrates 40 years in business this year.

Cases can be referred to FRU by CABs, law centres, and solicitors.
