I am filling out an application form for an internal job position within my company and came accross the question:
"Company x is an equal opportunities employer. What do you do in your current role to promote equal opportunities within the workplace?"
Would "I am not a racist" suffice?
ETA - balls! just realised the 3 p's in the title!
this is not reflective of the quality of my application... much

Nothing. I judge people on their abilities and skills. I don't do "equal opportunity" I give the work to the person I think will do the best job of it. If that breaches the company "equal opportunities" regulations, give the work to the retards in the dept as well as the talented people, and we'll build warships from cardboard and sticky-back plastic.
It's a nonsense.

How about saying...." I promote equal opportunities for all by treating all people in the same proffessional manner. Irrespective of race, relegion, sexuality or any other identifying catagorizations"

A line or two of
"I would ensure that no discrimination against age, race, sex or disability would take place ... blah blah blah..
So basically yes, but use more big words.
Also, it's not just race they are getting at.

Surely the only correct answer here is 'I do not take race into consideration'?
You take on the best person for the job, it does not matter where they are from and if it does, then it's not equal, it's racist.

Kozy said: Surely the only correct answer here is 'I do not take race into consideration'? That might imply that you still discriminate on grounds of gender, sexuality, disability etc. Equal opportunities is about more than race.

It's a nonsense. I agree. Amused2death said: How about saying...." I promote equal opportunities for all by treating all people in the same proffessional manner. I promote equal opportunities by hating everyone regardless of sex, race or ability.

Years ago I worked for someone who picked out 10% of the job applications at random and binned them. His thinking was that the ones he picked were unlucky, and he didn't want any unlucky people working for him!

Is it a public sector job?
You can say that you do your best to ensure that no-one is discriminated against and that you treat your obligations under the Equality Act seriously.

I would mention and perhaps even read and reiterate parts of their Equal ops policy. It is all about the policies.

There are now 9 strands of diversity - incl age, disability, religion, sex, sexuality, parenthood. Google protected characterics and equality act. So actually making any reasonable adjustments for coworkers and/or customers could come into this
