Well that's it! I did it! I am now a fully qualified train driver. I have a smile as wide as the Grand Canyon.

High five, so because I'm too lazy to read back through, how long was it from start of training to now.

Congratulations :-)

A mate of mine works for Southern and suggested I look at train driving. I don't think I'd pass the medical though.

And also that you're not a fat bd with high blood pressure, I'd imagine!

Congratulations Stedders, well done on your achievement mate!

Thank you RM and Funk. If either of you need advice or help you know where I am!

RM, if you just want to cry and shout at any part of your training I would be more than happy to listen, after all I've been there myself haha!

Sorry to bust in on you train driving folk but has anyone attended the network rail assessment centre in London? I've applied for a signalling job and I have the assessment centre next month, I've got a good idea of what it will entail from the handbook provided but I was wondering whether anyone had attended and could share any tips?

Congratulations to you Stedman!!

A year sounds about right doesn't it? Does that mean full pay now? Yippee.

Can I have some cry/shout action if need be? Been told I start on the 6th May, but still not had anything on paper.

(eta, spelling)

First drive done! So much for easing me into the job. just under 8 hours and I did 5 hour 45mins of driving. The other lad on my course did about 90mins hehe Someone got shafted! First train was a full and standing 10 car out of London Bridge, first stop Norwood. 70mph felt cool when you're used to metro work, gutted I wont be going to Brighton for a few years now!

Good man. Make sure you enjoy the next 12 months - it was best year of my (relatively) short life so far!

Yeap, a year is about right! Our company do a first year driver salary and then onto the proper pay shoot but still it's basically a 50% pay rise so can't complain too much biggrin

It felt really weird sitting at home on Sunday night. No revision. No stressing. Just one chilled out Stedman with cheek ache!

Of course you can matey, i'm only a phone call away.

Swwweeeettt.

Got home last night to a massive envelope through the door. Offer in writing! Get in.

Got to work out the best pension deal (no idea), and get it sent back. Feel a bit of a plank now, as I have pestered them, and now I can't send it back pronto as I need my passport for next week. Nevermind.

It's good to see some new blood into the driver grade & the best way to look at the job is you NEVER stop learning, the training is just your introduction
Good luck guys
