I'm cacking myself about it being honest. I've been getting 90-95% in the weekly assessments so far but I still feel I won't be good enough...

Very few people actually fail the driver training, it's in the companies best interest to get you through the course & out driving as they want your to be productive.
At present you are costing them money & they go little return, plus all the trainers I've dealt with want you to pass the course & if your struggling in any way just chat to them, plus you will find the rest of the course have the same doubts / worries you have : )

To be honest you learn more out driving as most of what you learn you don't use, but when ur called to use your knowledge its all there in the old memory banks I find.

Good luck with all the training

Cheers smile fortunately our Rules trainer is excellent and is actively encouraging us to ring him with questions and no question is too stupid (which I have a lot of!).

Covered SPAD awareness today (sobering) and S5-Trains Detained at Danger Signals (a lot to take in), home revision after the gym tonight methinks.

Pretty cool. Only going up and down in a yard at slow speed and to get a feel of the two different braking systems. smile

My last job was just an ordinary office job (accountancy background) but in my course we have train guard, fitter, ex police/Army/Navy/RAF, prison officer, security guard and even shopkeeper / retail staff etc aged early 20s to high 40s.

I’m not one of those people who wanted to join the railway industry from a young age. I was merely looking for a career change and this job kind of suits my lifestyle.

I was a Service Manager at a motor dealership-I was fed up of the politics and games in the motor industry. Always wanted to drive trains since I was a kid-my dream is to drive a HST!

Signing 313, 317, 321 and 365.

From another forum I've learned that the letters from the latest DBS vacancies are going out now - some received theirs yesterday for assessment in September.

I haven't had anything yet but fingers crossed!

London Midland are recruiting guards (senior conductors) which is a good starting point for those with aspirations to become a driver https://www.londonmidlandcareers.com/templates/lon...

It seems if people believe whay they read on RailUK, DB have contacted 40 out of the 2000+ applicants and require no more at present.

Onwards and upwards.

I'm tempted to apply for a trainnee role, I'm a crane technician and my only worry would be if after a few years I did not like it or due to medical reasons resulted in me being unable to drive and I might struggle returning to a technical role. I understand I would be taught traction knowledge and fault finding etc, so do you think I could claim that despite being a train driver I have had to retain my engineering knowledge and fault finding skills etc? When after all it's no different to being in a management postion and not being on the tools so to speak? It's just so I have something to fall back on.
