Sadly, until you refuse to drive it, they wont change it.
I'm a bus driver and had the same problem, caused really bad back pain, in the end I took legal action and my old company settled 3 days after a court date was set.
If I knew then what I know now I would off never driven buses with bad seats.

I failed a 66 a few weeks back because the interior cab door wouldn't stay shut, the handle had been snapped off the day before and not reported. The train I was booked to work had to be cancelled but if I'd taken it the only way for me to keep the door shut behind me (and therefore keeping all the noise and wind out) would have meant me having to wedge it shut with my right foot and not being able to hold the DSD pedal down with my left! It was sorted the following day though...

Entirely right but why did the driver that snapped it off not get it sorted.

Or was it you?

Wasn't me, I wasn't at work the day before, but I did work out who it was and had 'a word in his / her shell like'. Probably in a rush to shut the thing down at the end of the shift and get off home, but on this job, what goes around soon comes around ;-)

Because, sadly, alot of drivers don't give a sh*t.
I always report defects on a bus, just to cover my arse, but loads of drivers don't, which in turn makes me look like a 'josworth', and yet those drivers who don't report defects soon moan when something happens.
Probably the same on the trains.

Yes you do right.

Wish drivers would report stuff while it's still on the depot rather than waiting until they get to Thurso.

LUL do not recruit drivers off the street. Generally speaking you join as a station assistant and once your probation period is finished you can apply to be a train op. However, you still have to pass similar entry tests and interviews as other TOCs and as any train driver will tell you, they can be very demanding and do have a high failure rate.

There's a lot of re-organisation going on at the moment so another recruitment drive is on the cards in the nearish future so if a station assistant type role appeals then keep an eye on the TfL website. It's not a bad job and the money is alright and it does 'get your foot in the door'.

As for other TOCs in London, you have to keep an eye on their websites. London Overground is going through some serious upgrades at the moment and will need more drivers over the next few years as the improvements come on stream. Southeastern and GA also recently had recruitment drives for trainee drivers but unfortunately you're a little late for those but they may come out again.

There's also a careers/job section on www.railforum.co.uk where new opportunities are posted and is well worth keeping a eye on.

Don't know which part of the country you're in Snoopy but it's worth keeping an eye on the local weekly papers, some TOCs / FOCs advertise locally if they have a depot in the area. My lot recently ran an ad in our local rag and had a good response.

Keep an eye on the TOC's website like a hawk-it's where I found my vacancy. They get taken down very quickly though once the number of applicants required is reached (and this is usually within days!), so checking daily is worthwhile.

ATW were taking on in Chester but the external trainee drivers application quota was filled in less that a day !!! So if you see these vacancies be quick.

Well done mate. If you're in Bedfordshire, I assume you out of Bedford? Our paths may cross south of the river...

Try to avoid incidents, but you can only do your best. Be honest and willing to learn smile
