Didn't get an interview, but glad I applied anyway. Better to try and fail than not try and wonder 'what if'.

Double most of the graduate schemes' salaries, after the 12 months training eek
Yes and how many graduates are responsible for 1000s of people's life's and one mistake that leads to someone being killed ends you up in prison?

You won't earn the full pay untill your probation period which will be either one year or two years depending on toc after your final assessment at the end of your trainining, so it could be 3 years.
Wasn't knocking train drivers beer

Loadsa money, though.

I've been responsible for the thousands of people I've driven past on the road, when one mistake can lead to a prison sentence too hehe

Good luck to all those still in the hat. I'll be putting myself to the test next time around. Missed the deadline by a day on this one frown

York I am guessing that the 5 weeks email means we have made it into the second pile ready to be reduced down.

To add a bit more information I applied for Newcastle and hopefully but I think there will still be a long way to go. Is this a complete change of career direction for you? Or are you already involved in trains, transport etc.

I work in logistics but nothing to do with trains so a complete career change for me. Are you in the industry?

Complete change of career to. I'm an electrical maintenance technician in the oil and gas industry. I just applied out of interest and to fulfill the boyhood dream.

If some people do eventually get invited to the assessment day, practice the group-bourdon test. Familiarise yourself with it so you know what is expected on the day smile

Ah well, got bounced on the Schenker job too. Apparently a large number of already qualified drivers had applied which I find a little unfair given the job was for trainee drivers. Ho hum.

Cheers,
Rob

How did you find out Rob as I have not heard anything?

Sorry to hear and if you look on their site they are looking for qualified train drivers citing the same amount of vacancies at each depot.

There is a £10k difference between Driver and Driver/Operator, D/O being the lowest wage. Anyone know what the difference in positions are?

Got an email this morning.

Driver vs Driver Operator; a DO works within the yards, shunting the trains around, getting them ready for Drivers to disappear over the horizon basically stuff like that. They're not allowed to drive trains out on the main lines, presumably you can move up to a Driver if desired. It wasn't clear at all in the job ad if you'd start as a DO and move up or if it was a choice you'd have. Extra £10k a year would've made that choice quite easy for me wink

Cheers,
Rob

OMG!
Got an email yesterday from DB Schenker, I've been invited up to a driver assessment day in Doncaster!
I'd not heard anything from them, so had not expected to go any further with it.
