The university has got back to me, and it appears they offer a scholarship for people living in Wales. So it could be a bit more viable than I first thought.

Well, I don't think I got the F1 job, the application closing date has been extended by an extra week :/

On the plus side one of the designers at Jaguar phoned me yesterday, and I'm now waiting for another member of staff to get in touch, so things are progressing, if a little slowly.

So, I thought I'd give you guys an update.

I signed on at the end of August, so since then I've been continuing on my job hunt.

This morning I was phoned by a company I had an interview with 2 days ago. I've got the job. It's nothing amazing, but it's a nice job for minimum wage, and it beats going to the Job Centre.

However, practically the minute I put the phone down, I got an email from one of the managers at a car manufacturer, offering me an interview for a Clay Modelling role - pretty much my dream job. I've been talking to these guys for a while through two of their chief designers, so it's nice to see it come to something, but I'm a bit stuck now!!

I know perhaps stuck is the wrong word.

I'm supposed to start the job on the 2nd, but I obviously need to find a day for this interview.

I just don't want to start taking days off as soon as I start a job as it doesn't look good, but maybe I'm just too soft!

Just got off the phone to the Modelling Manager, I'm going up for an "informal chat" on the 8th October, with a possible start date of the 28th.

I'm shaking right now!

Cheers guys.

Thanks for the words of advice as well. It's all well and good talking to friends and family, but sometimes you need another way of looking at things.

I will, of course, keep you updated smile

Had the interview today. I really enjoyed it, and the people I met while I was there were really nice.

I was told that they are going to take me on. I haven't been given a date yet, as they have a few things to sort beforehand.

Will continue for now with the minimum wage job, until I get the call to start!

Thanks smile

There is a bit of irony, as it is a year to the day today that I was handed the letter telling me I was being made redundant.

Thanks for the replies guys.

The Crohns is manageable, on a grand scale I don't suffer too badly compared to others, but I do have bad days. I just work through it though. I'm not letting it rule my life smile

Well, its been a while but I thought I'd update this again, even just as repayment for all the great advice and kind words, or for anyone who is in a similar situation to what I was at the start to read.

It took a while before I was given a starting date, we kept in touch continuously, and although as things went on I started to get a bit doubtful, eventually it all came together.

I stayed at the basic job for just under 6 months, so it was very much a blessing in the end. It was delivering parts for a Ford dealer, which I actually really enjoyed, and the people I worked with were a great bunch.

I got the call mid February, with my start date, which was the beginning of this month. The place where I was working were good when I handed my notice in. It was mentioned that it was expected sooner or later, even though I didn't tell them about what I was waiting on, but they knew what I had done before.

So I've now been in the OEM design studio for 3 weeks now, and so far it has been an amazing experience. It's a friendly and welcoming environment, and I seem to have made a good impression with what I am already capable of and how quickly I have picked some things up. It's a great feeling to pretty much be where I belong, doing what I wanted to do. I still get a funny feeling walking through the studio at the beginning or end of the day. I know how lucky I am to be doing this, but it's nice to think the hard work up to now is paying off.

I'd like to think I've proven some people wrong too, there are too many stereotypes regarding graduates, and people around my age generally. I have worked my balls off to get here, and will continue to do so smile

Sounds really cheesy, but anyone who is struggling right now like I was, just keep going, and work through it. The amount of time I spent thinking things were never going to happen, and people telling me that something would come along really got me down, but it will get better!

Thank you everyone for the advice throughout this thread. I hope this post is a sufficient result. It certainly is for me! smile
