I don't suppose any PistonHeads forum members are looking a summer worker through June & July? I'm at Newcastle Uni but live in York and have had little luck over the last month finding some work in the North Yorkshire / Harrogate / Leeds areas, in order to earn some cash before I go away in August.

I started looking for catering / bar / hospitality work however it seems to have been to no avail unless it is for the whole summer, which in my position is not possible. I am looking at all jobs now.

Does anyone need an extra set of hands in their business or could do with someone covering for those on holiday leave? My fingers are crossed & is CV is waiting for hopefully any job opportunities going.

Only helpful responses please, I have seen others get destroyed on these forum's trying to find work!

Thanks

Have you thought about garden centres, supermarkets and the like? Plenty of those in your neck of the woods.

Yeah since I'm not around in August and I'm back at uni in September, no employer seems to want to train someone to do something for only 2 months no matter how basic. I shall give Supermarkets a look, thanks for the advice!

It's a long time ago but I was always able to get unskilled vacation work with companies on the Thorpe Arch trading estate. I used to forego my own summer holiday and work flat out. I think it helps if you can offer them 8,10 or 12 unbroken weeks as it's the regular workers taking holidays that gives them the staffing problems during the summer.

Golf courses and clubhouses? Longer daylight hours means longer working hours to cover.

If you really need/want the money: Go and work there for two months, then leave. People change plans all the time.

If you decide to go down this route, do it at a big company, not a small one (e.g. locally-owned pub) where you'll be fking over the landlord/small business owner.

+1

I know it's probably a bit wrong, but I've started jobs knowing I'll be leaving soon without alluding to that fact. When I was doing my Masters I worked in Sainsbury's on Blossom Street in York, I can find out if there's any upcoming vacancies from current staff if you're interested as vacancies only stay on the web for about 2 hours then are filled.

I would have thought that with all the le tour stuff that there would be plenty of bar/catering stuff short term.

Yeah absolutely agree on that one!

Spent the last week sending off CVs and cover letters & I'm beginning to hear back and arrange some meetings.

Thanks for the advice PHers, and still if anyone does need cover work or an extra set of hands do get in touch.
