Any Postmen/Women work for Royal Mail?
Discussion
Hi
I am contemplating a complete career change and doing some delivery work for Royal Mail. Just standard postman type stuff. Part time hours. It'll be nice to get out of the office!
Whilst the hours and wage look reasonable, once I've got the job, is there a chance they might change things considerably? Does overtime exist, as this would be required to bump up the wages a bit.
Are they a good company to work for? I suppose it's changed a bit since they were privatised?
Any advice is appreciated

Surely, by default, all postmen/women work for Royal Mail?
Depends how pedantic you are.One could say, UKmail, TNTpost, FedEx post (To name but a few) all hire postmen and women?
But it's just a thread title. Did you miss the actual question about the company, or just have no experience in this matter?

Very.
How dull your life must be. Thanks for reading all the same. I've edited the original for your benefit. It now shows companies that say they are offering post services.I look forward to a useful response from someone else in due course...

I may have some experience in this field, so what, specifically do you want to know?
From your OP, yes there is overtime available in nearly every office I've been in. You can usually do an extra hour/hour and a half most days, and work your day off fairly regularly.
No, there have been no significant changes to terms or conditions since privatisation. I expect these to be gradual, due to the heavy union influence.
From my point of view, it's fairly physical work, that can leave you knackered. But provided you don't get caught up in some of the attitude around the place, it's pretty stress free, insofar as you get presented with your days work in the morning, and when you get done is entirely up to how you approach your work. Your daily destiny lies in your hands.
Let me know if there is anything more specific you'd like to know.

I've been a collection driver for Royal Mail now for 1 year. It's VERY unlikely they will hand out full time contracts now. I'm on my 3rd '6 month temp 20hr contract' but I do get to cover full time duties plus overtime every week.
Try become a collections driver instead of being a postman, it's A LOT better.
