I'm sensing I may be slightly out of kilter with others on this.

I appreciate the input. Not really helped me feel that confident that it's going to end well frown

OP, I've had a brew now so feeling a bit more helpful....

Firstly, you ARE out of kilter. Your behaviour has been completely unacceptable. You need to address that now before your meeting with HR.
Secondly, start reading up about what most companies, but specifically yours, are looking for in respect to dress code.
Thirdly, write down a detailed list of exactly what you have said etc, don't leave anything out..you need to be honest with HR, explain that you thought it was ok and are willing to take training to sort yourself out.

Hope others can come along with tips as well

Was another rule for the women to pick up objects off the floor without bending knees as an aid to improve morale of male staff?

This had to be a wind up, surely?

If not, OP, I hope they give you the opportunity to make amends for this quite astounding lack of judgement, but I imagine you'll be lucky if they do.

So today I get the news that I have broken a HR rule and will be facing a disciplinary and possibly the sack!

As background, I work for a large company (for 20 years) and manage a small (sub 30) team of roughly 70/30 women to men. Of late we've hired a couple of attractive women (stunners) and I have therefore enforced the dress code more rigorously which is business casual.

Given the attractiveness I asked the ladies to wear skirts etc to brighten up the office which most were happy to go along with. For some reason colleague A ( let's say you will not be surprised to know she is a pig dog) refused and pointed out this wasn't the dress code. To be fair it isn't but is my version of.

Anyway things settle down but standards slipped so I've pushed the code more of late. Shortish skirts and no flat shoes.

All are ok with this new push on standards with the exception of pig dog who has reported me to HR and the Union!

Long story short HR had me in for a chat and have said I've broken various regulations. I couldn't deny it as I have 20 women who will say I've put the policy in place. 95% of them were happy with the policy and I've had comments from other departments on how smart we are looking. In hind site mainly from men.

So, given I can't deny what I've done, any tips on how to handle this. Surely this can't be a stackable offence? It's PC ,madness!
Your only strategy here is total contrition and demonstrating a pro active willingness to take corrective training etc. Any organisation not dealing with sexism in the workplace leaves itself wide open to claims etc. Not able to give you anything positive here, behaviour is straight out of the 1980's (when it wasn't appropriate either).

To the OP.

Sorry to say this but with your views - you are unemployable in a management capacity.

Consider getting some legal help.

Finally - maybe an option is to resign gracefully. Although a positive reference may not be on the cars, maybe you can agree on something.

Good luck.

This story is primo BS.

If by any remote stretch the story is genuine then OP you may well be out on your ear and rightly so! Your only hope is to hop on a time machine and get a job in the 1970s.

This is a slightly better troll thread than the PH average; I'll give it that.

If you worked for me, I would sack you.

Your attitude 'larger pig dog' 'stunners' etc absolutely stinks. You might think its PC gone wrong but most of these rules are here for a reason. You seem to be completely unable to accept that.
Its a shame this is a complete windup on the off chance you are serious I can only agree with the above.

You're screwed.

I trust that you insisted the lipstick was bright red too? And that pens must be "tastefully" chewed on at all times?

Unless you're a pimp (which seems unlikely as I don't think brasses are unionised), you're fked.

Whilst strongly suspecting your just trying to cheer us all up and give everyone a mid week lift.

Lets assume your being serious for a second and its actually true. I'm not a lawyer nor an employment specialist in any way shape or form. My opinions are purely based on a gut feeling. In my opinion you are more fked than an extraordinarily well fked feller hailing from the hills of truly fkdville in a season rich in being full of fks. The level of fked up you face is of a magnitude not seen, since Rolf Harris asked "can you see what it is yet" off screen. Good luck in your next job ( remember always ask if they want to go large on the order). You sir are another PH Legend bow

If it's any consolation, I'd back you 100%.

Always nice to see some decent pins brightening up the office. The only mistake you've made is not managing the ugly ones out the door before implementing it.

I dream of a working environment from Mad Men.

There rarely is one. We get quite a few over in S,P&L. This one is at least mildly funny.
