Hi all,

Is there a standard legal point at which a probation period ends?

I received a letter from my employer stating a specific date, however, if there's been no review and I've not signed anything (or been told otherwise), am I still within my probation?

Whatever your company says / signs etc you can still be made redundant without any reason within the first two years of your employment (unless you are fired for something that could be viewed as discriminatory )

If you have passed your probation date, you are no longer on probation. This only normally means that they/you have to give a months notice rather than a week. Occasionally other benefits may kick in, what are you not getting that you will get after your probation period ends?

Top man, I'm specifically referring to the notice period that I would have to give... thanks for clarifying wink

The answer to your opening question is no. A probation period is a matter of contract. Statutory minimum notice is not linked to a contractual probation period.

If my contract says probation ends on 1/1/2015 and after probation period notice required is one month. Doesn't that mean that on 2/1/2015 my notice period is a month unless I'm told (in writing) that my probation period is to be extended?

The probation period ends on the date stated in the contract. It can only be extended if the contract provides for this.

Subject to statutory minimum, notice required is as stipulated in the contract or absent such stipulation whatever is reasonably to be inferred from the circumstances.
