Hi folks,

I'm a penultimate year MEng student applying for industrial placements in engineering and not sure whether or not to leave my full school grades on my CV.

Considering I have done 3 years of uni(on track for a 1st no less), a 12 week placement this summer at a huge company, Formula Student and always worked part time in banking and retail, how relevant will my Higher/Advance Higher grades actually be?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Depends a bit. I'd be inclined to put them on as they may show you have extra skills that may be relevant to the role – eg if you got a decent grade in French or German, that might be another 'string to your bow' if the company has links abroad

I work for an big US engineering consultant and we take placements in all the time. I've interviewed our recent crop of placements and its nice to see school grades so you can really drill down into the persons background, and ask questions about how they found that period of their studying. An F in English and on an engineering degree wont help me when I need them to write a Technical Note or in-depth report?? If you have nothing to hide, stick them on there.

What engineering are you looking to progress into??

which for a graduate means A levels and GCSEs

given the (mis)use of UCAS points for screening purposes in graduate job applications and the ubiquity of a requirment to demonstrate maths/ numeracy and English Language /Welsh Language ( if you that that way inclined lovely boy )<to be said in best windsor davies voice> / Literacy at NQF level 2 ...

I would include the module grades for your University modules.

Then list the A-Level & GCSE subjects but probably not bother with grades unless they were particularly good.

Interesting. Absolutely nothing to hide, it just takes up a LOT of space when more detail could be written about relevant work experience.

Not sure what I want to do quite yet but this summer I spent in automotive, large British OEM, and didn't particularly like it, so ideally looking for something in oil and gas or renewable energy.
