Sounds like the recruiter is, shall we say, "Maximising their margin." on that one.

That's odd, I know a lad who is around 25-26 and has 3 years OEM experience just got a contracting role there on over £25/hr. Sounds like they're taking the piss a bit.
I dont have OEM experience , i have done CAD work and product management currently.

As for looking for the ad itself , the way recruiters have worked this year is as follows:

hi pimpchez

" all these vacancies have a rate of 17 ph ,25 word documents attached .Pick the ones you want to go for "

My eyes are now opened a bit more now thanks to this forum.

You have a PM, there are significantly better agencies than that placing people in JLR with a bit more effort than sending you a list.

Well this seems a bit unfortunate , but i have the forsight to see that the future is looking bleak. I like my current role + short commute but i can only see 3 more months worth of work and lost tenders. One of the supervisors is already on his way out due to this.

I am looking sqaureley back at JLR again.

Thanks , i really dont want to go anywhere. I feel that i am in a role that suits me even with the workload/responsibility. However i would hate to get caught out and laid off in a few months time.

Don't worry. I know easier said than done.

I would suggest that you do not jump before you are pushed. If the worst happens, in the current climate, you can pick up a contract job at JLR with ease.

pimpchez, what exactly is the type of job you are looking for and where abouts are you in the midlands?

I wouldn't be quite so sure about that. I get the feeling the party may be starting to come to an end at JLR for contractors over the next 12 months.

Time will tell...

Average rates for advertised positions have come down significantly in the last few years and there's certainly less positions being posted than 12 months ago. Combined with TATA losing 33% of their value since 2012 and certain other rapid growth issues, I wouldn't say the contractors seat is as safe as it was 12 months ago, but that's the nature of contracting.
