Been a contractor for a number of years and whilst I have seen many things been seeing a few things wrong with current contract.

The current contract was supposed to be for 6mths, however over the last couple of months there has been a severe lack of working, resulting with me continuously asking for and being denied work. That being said, the guy next to me is still been handed work to do.

Second, I was given my notice yesterday, which seemed inline with the lack of work that we are having. However just been informed that my line manager who gave me this wonderful news has also promised the same job to someone else outside the company. Line manager is white and the new guy is white.

Prior to me going, the interview went well and my current line manager was forced to take me on, he did tell the agency and project manager he did not want anymore Asians but was cornered due to my experience being perfect for the role.

What shall I do?

The big boss is a real fair guy and pretty sure he will listen but I don't want to use the race card or anything, however why would you hire someone who is less experienced than me. This is the only reason, my work has been pretty top notch and I have moved the company forward from where they were.

I work in IT.

Unless you have concrete proof to back up your accusations it's probably best just to move on.

Keep in mind he needs to give no reasons at all as to why your contract is being terminated, you are not a long serving permie.

Have a chat with the big boss, dont mention discrimination, but just say you are concerned by the reason for your being replaced and would like to get some clarity on it from him if possible.

TBH most people think they are good at their job, but infact they are mediocre/average, no company will fall apart if 1 person leaves.

This really. There is a possibility it could be racism but without proof it will simply seem like you are playing the race card to keep your job. Also, if there's opportunities of work elsewhere, find somewhere where there aren't dicks.

Not expecting the company to fall apart or anything. I am very experienced and been told by the same managers that before I arrived things were pretty bad. I am not saying I saved their world or anything, just trying to get the point across that there is no logical reason why they would want to replace me.

Cheers dude. Your right. It is a little annoying to think that the colour of my skin would affect my opportunities in this way.

Personally I would go to the main boss and not the line manager.

I would be asking for feedback. As after initially there being a shortage of work that my contract is being terminated, yet the role is being advertised elsewhere. So would like some feedback on what they thought of your work and what was wrong so that you can work on this.

fk 'em - their problem if they're losing an experienced and hard working member of staff.

But to what end? He may get to keep a job working for someone who doesn't like/value him. Doesn't sound like fun. One of the advantages of being a contrator, you can move on easily. Admitidley you need to keep some lengthy roles on your CV and not change every six months ideally but this sounds like a car crash.

Yeah i might try and have a quiet word when I see him.

I just dont get involved in politics, I want to do my work, go running and then go home. Its the first time I have experienced anything like this usually most white people are fair (not being racist). However dont really need to stoop to his level.

Just because the line manager is a prick doesn't mean the company is bad. Also to have a contracted terminated early doesn't look great. Finally after working somewhere I usually like to be the first person they call in future when required.

I can confirm - line manager is a prick.

One of those - I am in over my head, not a clue whats going on, but in a good gig, so just try and control everyone below me. And if anyone demonstrates he can think I will have to bully them into submission until I control the universe of the digital department department belonging to one of the largest supermarkets.

Shame. The top blokes are brilliant. Spoke to one about his newly acquired M3 which he sold due to not liking it!

And what colour are you?

It's not racism.
And even if it is, what can you really do about it? You have little rights as a contractor especially if your contract is due up or expiring.

You're a contractor and appear to have an attitude problem with your line manager. Not surprising you aren't being renewed.

He didn't say that his contract wasn't being renewed. His post appears to state early termination of the appointment. You'd do well to get your facts straight before making such bold statements.

His line manager said he didn't want any more asians. I dont think it's the OP's attitude that's at fault here tbh.

OP - feck him. You're well rid.

I've just left a role where my experience was completely the reverse to yours. I was the white face being pushed out to be replaced with indian imports.

And the reason is not so much to do with money or race but the reasons you've described above. The Indian fellas kind of have no choice but to kowtow to the 2 managers of the service department I was working in, the indigenous contractors would front them up a bit more and question the idiocy of the edicts coming from above. The 2 managers, who were completely out of their knowledge zone, bullied anyone that didn't slavishly follow their stupidity.

Result, less local contractors, more imported Indian guys. The Indian guys have my genuine sympathies being stuck there.

I'm having 2 weeks off before starting my next contract, the market seems buoyant at the moment, so just move on, it's not worth loosing sleep over. Sometimes your face just doesn't fit, and it's not necessarily down to colour, maybe you're just an argumentative, grumpy bugger like me. laugh

Best of luck! smile

Thank you.

And just for the record, he only become a prick when he hired a less experienced guy to replace me. It was the project manager who told me, I try and keep out of politics and so my suspicions were confirmed about the racist slant.
