There wasn't one. It was a question.

Being self-employed I find it easier to think of £s per day worked. What I think of as good money is £400+ per day worked. Working 5 days a week, with 6 weeks off in a year makes that approx £92k/yr.
I aim for as high a £/day rate as possible to then work fewer days overall especially as when in 40% tax bracket net income increases much more slowly.

I am aware it was a question!

Why did you ask? Why did you think I was under 25?

I'd be comfortable on £30k.

Does that correspond to the thread title though? My first ever salary was more than that so I wouldn't class it as a good salary...

So looking at the results do they indicate the spread of incomes of the masses of PH, or simply what they would want, my income is the one I want and it is the one I am on, it seems I am in the top 10% but I am a contractor and have to pay all my own out and look to the future..

Okay well my first ever salary was a third of that, now I earn just over two thirds of it... so £30k is pretty good!

"Britain’s £26,500 average salary"

It's relative to where you live, I ear a fair bit more than that, but have a modest 2up2down house. Go away from London and I could have a big old house.

My salary for where I live is low, but generally it's good. What I earn gives me enough to have holidays and save, so it's good. But a little more would never hurt!

In Leeds, I reckon £60k is the sweet spot. At 25 I've got a very low basic and make the rest up in commission but that is the nature of my industry. When I was doing my student placement year I was taking home about £750 per month with rent of £300, so I got a job looking after a disabled person on the weekends and took home and extra £900 per month. That seemed like a load of money but that was when I first realised that money wasn't everything as working all hours sucks!

I earn nowhere near the amount needed to be comfortable. Happiness? Yeah, more money does make you happy but I'm not going to risk my health chasing it.

Being on less than the national average with 3 kids and a wife to support alongside partially disabled parents is hard. But I sacrifice quite a bit to make that happen.

I reckon 3x what I'm on now would make me much more comfortable.

Sometimes I think maybe pulling my finger out of my arse and starting my own business would be the best thing. I was so close last time but had to prioritise money.

My idea of a good salary is one that pays the bills. At the moment £30k would easily pay mortgage on a little house/flat once that is paid off could comfortably live on less. My aims never been to earn tons of money but work less for the same money. Spend more time doing the things that I love. I have worked 12 hours a day 7 days a week in the past and its no way to live.

To live in the nice part a Birmingham (Harborne/Edgbaston), I'd say you need to be on £60k+ to live my idea of a good life.
£40k upwards is where things will become more comfortable.
£30k things will be tight.

I'm guessing most people who are answering work in the private sector. What is peoples thoughts on a good salary if its paid by the tax payer? I would say as others it really depending on where you live if you are single or have a second salary children etc but would suggest £30k should be enough for most.

I don't see that it matters. There are plenty of very well paid public sector jobs and I'd go so far as to say there are more overpaid people in the public sector than the private.

£30k is easily achievable working for local authorities, NHS, police, teaching etc so I would peg it above that figure.
