Here's what the OP says:

Well work wasn't that bad afterall but I guess it's the principle of it.
Obviously I'm looking elsewhere.

I got the impression that its oen of those places where they are always short staffe and staff are not really respective

As indicated he hasnt been trained properly

And I suspect this may be the first of many times he will be asked to work extra is staffing is a problem.

I am sure a posh barrister like you has never had to put up with such issues tongue out

Or rather, the reason why he's a barrister is because 'having to work late' doesn't enter his thought process. Like many of us, work is done when it's done; not when Neighbours starts.

Its was a joke FFS - anyway I suspect being a barrister is slightly a different kettle of fish from what the OP is doing. I suspect there is a far more direct link between working hard and pay etc

Also work should be done when its done if you are paid on an hourly basis and have a set number of hours. When I worked retail I didn't have a problem with being asked to work extra but its different if you are being pressured into it coz the company cannot sort its affairs out.

I'm a not so posh solicitor and have the 'finish when the work is done' life. I am paid to deal with that though and it also means that if I want to spend 15 minutes on PH I bloody well do.

I would not expect 'normal' office workers to have to work overtime very often, and to suck it up on the few times a year they have to. That said I also think that were there is an apparent, obvious and on going staff shortage it is not correct that the Company expects everyone to take up the slack all the time when an additional employee is what is really required.

I have seen it happen many times now where one person has left and their role spread about 4 or 5 others rather than employ a replacement. This can work well every so often but when you have a team of 5 trying and failing to do the same work as a team of 10 did 3 years ago you start to have sympathy for those who are more attuned to shift work. And yes I did just call 9-5 shift work.

You've missed my point entirely.

No-one ever got anywhere by complaining about their situation; they grafted their way to a better one instead. This applies to any job.

I'd call it part time.

I think that is what the OP is doing - hanging on at this place whilst he finds somewhere better - I doubt there is any benefit to him in workings extra hours that he is being 'forced' to.
