Did when I had my shop ,but now hoping for management position in the production sector.
Unfortunately this seems few and far between.
All I would advise is look up the companies you would like to work for and then get in contact direct and then find email address of the HR or recruitment team and then send a nice email explaining why you think you are suitable and attach your cv. If no response then follow up with a phone call or email.

Persistence as well as saving them 10% on top of your salary can be persuasive.

5 and 1/2 years ago from a suggestion on PH, I joined LinkedIn

http://uk.linkedin.com/in/logicalimprovementprojec...

and connected with people I knew, and tried to leverage my way into paid freelance work.

I connected with people doing similar work in companies I wanted to work in, I connected with people in those companies who would be able to purchase my services, and the result....?

I was forced to use Jobsite and monster and Recruitment Agency websites, to obtain the work I wanted to do.

Gradually though, more and more RC's wanted to connect with me, and I resented the fact that they were probably using my connections to head hunt other people.

Until recently, when I'm getting some interesting approaches from RC's I've connected with.

With luck, my next contract will come from a connection I made on LinkedIn. Just waiting for paperwork. Or rather: still applying for other roles until I get the paperwork.

No problem. Most companies now have a LinkedIn page and from there you can search the employee list with HR and sales people using it the most, send them an invite request and you will be surprised at how many people just click accept and then send them a message or invite them out for a coffee if no luck then check their contacts for any potential useful ones.

Good luck.
