How to legally get paid from a short contract role?

Hello all,

I've been asked to go back to a contract role on odd days at an agreed daily rate. The last time I worked for this company I was full time and went through an Umbrella company, but I wasn't happy with their service. I am not registered as a LTD company either.

Is there a way I can legally receive funds for contract work, without being registered as a company or going through an umbrella?

I'm currently also in full time work elsewhere, if that makes a difference.

2. Set up a Limited
3. Use a mate's Ltd and get him to pay you PAYE
4. Become a sole trader

4 depends if the client will allow it. You'll also expose yourself to a risk the client sues if you muck up. What about your professional indemnity?

3. would be the easiest, my dads got a LTD company. I'll see if he would be willing.

Not sure if I'm honest, my manager and colleagues were well aware at the time and nothing was raised.

I contacted the Umbrella I used last year, they have sent me an initial projection through which equates to roughly 65% take home. Does that sound about right? Seems a bit less than I remember.

Give the company your bank details and mock up an invoice in your personal name.
Their payroll should easily be able to deal with that. It doesn;t have to be a Ltd company.

Next January, fill out a tax return and pay any extra tax that is due.

Just to say I did this, and it worked. I had the money within a week that I'd be wanting for months. Cheers!
