Amazing how people differ really. Guy Martin does this for a living and says its his passion and he would never give it up. He said he would never quit to race bikes full time or make tv.

He is mental though in general hehe
I like my vocation, I don't like where I do it. It's the sthole I work in that I hate the most, rather than my trade.

For security reasons, I genuinely can't disclose that, but I work two days / two nights then four off. Add annual leave of around 35 days plus the aforementioned trips around the country and I actually only work 4-5 months.

The pay, overtime not withstanding, is only just above the national average at the moment mind you, but I can't complain!

I remember reading a thread like this here years ago, and I was really quite taken aback by some of the comments. It all got a bit 'honest' and somebody fessed about having to resist the urge to steer off a bridge in the morning drive to work. The comment didn't shock me as much as the number of people who agreed with him.

I see the morning rush hour in a different light since then! People are not only grumpy, they are quite possibly suicidal...... so don't fk with them, haha.

Mr Roso -
I'm not surprised there was some brutal honesty.
Life is hard!

Someone point me too that bridge, as had to sell my sat nav last year :0
Me and the mrs just had a big long chat about this and that, and I can see people's desperation.
Started at 7 this morning, not bad but didn't finish till 10 tonight, home for 1030, couldn't be arsed with dinner as it's abit late! Up again at 345, to leave at 430 to be at work for 5, is that daft???
Just trying to go forward, but it's not really happening, oh well, it's got to turn sooner or later.

Yes that is daft.
I don't know why people think sleep is something that can be sacrificed.
It's up there with food and water its that important! I've seen all sorts of negative outcomes and illnesses from not taking sleep seriously.
Good luck in turning it around though.

You're right, it's very daft and I wasn't happy, but they seem to think 70-80 hours is an ok week!!! And they don't pay anywhere near enough!
Desperate to get into another job, sending a cv off for 1 when I get home later.

Can you try and get on the post?

Wage is decent for what the job involves, decent pension , 39 hour week over various duty structures depending no location.

They've gone over to van share so not being able to drive 'shouldn't' be a issue.

That's awful. What sector do you work in?

I hope you can find a way out. +1 for the comment about sleep. Sleep deprivation is very bad for your health.

Was a lorry driver by trade but sadly that's not currently possible. I can only drive on a car licence at mo. The current job is in the access equipment industry, cherry pickers mainly! Bit of everything from cleaning the drains,
checking and cleaning the kit and deliveries/collections aswell as setting them up and showing customers how to use them!
The job I'm going for is as a chauffeur smile

Thanks Matt wink
Job description sounds great!?!?
Working for a CEO in London, house to office and business appointments aswell as looking after his private fleet of cars. I would really like something along these lines and the rock n roll mob I worked for said they would happily give me a glowing reference.
So, I'll get my cv off and hope to maybe at least get an interview?

I like my job, work with nice people, meet a few nice ones too. It is close to minimum wage though. I'm a delivery driver working a mixture of rural/urban runs. The rural ones I spend most the day driving through lovely countryside, the urban ones I can get rushed quite a bit but that just means the time goes quicker.

I have a HND in automotive engineering, went to top up to a degree, flopped and got a third. Bit of a botch to have on your CV when you're trying to get your foot in the door. That coupled with no relevant working experience in the field means nobody is interested, 2 years on from graduating I just wish I went for an apprenticeship instead. Considering going back to college in September for something else, it's that bad.

I very much enjoy my job as a train driver. 4 day week, I live less than 10 minutes from the depot and job security.

I was a commerial pilot for 10 years which had some wonderful moments but not as glamorous as people think and less secure. Following redunancy I owned a couple of restaurants. This I hated. Own boss was not what it's cracked up to be (in my case). Everyone wants your money and we were basically working for our staff and the landlord, 95% of customers are great but the professional complainers drove me nuts. Loads of stress, so glad to be back in the transport industry with someone else to worry about paying the bills.

I do have the odd moments when I think WTF, but few and far between.

Great fun as well.

Overall yes, the job has its highs and lows but it is the team of people who really make the job. The company was a start up, high risk, could have failed in 6 months, etc but has survived and been acquired.

It has been one of those jobs that encompasses so much and everyones an expert in their field so I think quite a special environment with no dead wood. Pity we are being treated as a hi-tech jobbin' shop with do this, do that, etc which is starting to upset people.
