Urmston is overlooked, nice town, railway link to Deansgate and Oxford road stations, sensible house prices, right on the Mersey with nice walks etc, live music pubs and a really good steak house.

If you do move up don't get swallowed in by the current south manchester obsession that's going on. West Didsbury and these places are ok but I don't really get the craze. There are plenty of other villages / towns that have decent places to eat / drink without getting suckered into paying through the nose for a pokey flat.

I agree. I grew up in 'proper' Didsbury and, back then, West Didsbury was a hole. No amount of trendy bars will make me think that it's not cramped and overpriced.

House prices used to be sensible but now people are getting a bit carried away.

Cheadle Hume good but prices have been high for a while and the commute would be torture.
I work in Spinningfields and live in Bramhall. Commute takes me 35 mins. Hardly torture.
