We're just in the midst of re-organising our offices, and I'm trying to avoid falling foul of fire safety regulations.

I have looked online, but can't seem to find any information about how much space there should be around chairs / desks etc.

We are looking at a row of chairs and desks that will back into a corner, something like this.

The 'seating' circle denotes a standard basic office chair, and a diameter of 990cm has been applied.

Does anybody know a) if this is ok or b) where I can find some info online regarding regulations for space?

TIA.

I on occasion design office layouts. No specific regs about space between desks/chairs to do with fire.

BUT have a look at 'the new metric handbook' ([Architecture_Ebook]_Metric_Handbook_Planning_and_Design_Data is the file name)this will give you the ergonomics of laying out an office space. you can download the PDF for free online so no need to buy the hard copy.

I cant see the picture, so cant offer any specific advice.

ETA - OK have a good read of Building Regs Approved Doc B, specifically B1 section 3, 4 & 5, this also refers to Doc M which is also worth a read anyway when designing anything as its DDA regulations. If in doubt ask a fire officer for guidance. Most important thing I find is having simple/concise signage and making sure exits are clear.

If there are solid wall on all three sides, access to the upper right desk will be a nightmare. If possible I would put at least a minimum width access-way between the right-hand 4 desks & the rest - that way no-one has to squeeze past more than one other desk.

That whole layout looks very tight to me.
