It's a great story BGARK. Tempting to say that if it ain't broke don't fix it.

I would suggest the first thing to do is have a really good think, and talk with the relevant people, about what you want from the business over the next few years.

If you want to grow it and make more money then fine, but stress and frustration goes with that territory. Also be prepared for the business to take turns you may not actually like very much.

If you want to have a manageable, productive business that gives you a good income and less stress then maybe look at trimming away some of what you do to focus on the core parts.

If it's feasible and desirable to cash out and sell it then now might be a good time.

IMO there's a lot to be said for small businesses where you know everyone and do what you like and are best at. And many of the happiest people I have known do just that.

I would also say that from my (admittedly small) experience the transition from an owner/founder operated business to a structured corporate entity is the most difficult phase for most businesses after start up and has tremendous potential to alienate staff, customers and anyone else involved if it goes wrong, and will probably do a fair bit of those things even if it goes right.

Cheers AJS. Everything is always broken and always needs fixing. One of our many moto's is "improving everything all of the time". Its not in my nature to accept that things are just "ok".

What do I want, no idea. Its not just the money that's for sure. I could sit back and have a better than average lifestyle just letting things tick-over right now but that's not going to happen any time soon.

I have thought about going on that Island TV programme... smile
