In my experience it's not often driven by individuals, but rather company culture. Some companies seem to use and abuse whilst (usually the ones doing well) build and benefit from good subcontractor relationships.

I can imagine this is one of those vital pieces of information that can be taken for granted, I'll be sure to take in on-board.
