Bit of a long shot, but probably worth me asking here. My eldest daughter has just finished her A levels (Accountancy, Maths and Photography) and is looking into apprenticeship schemes.

So, does anyone work at an accountancy firm or business offering apprenticeship schemes? We live in Surrey (Woking) so ideally it would be based in this area.

Cheers
Rob

Deloitte are offering them but only currently in their Cardiff and Milton Keynes offices.

Hi Rob

Long time lurker on PH here but as I did an apprenticeship at one of the big four (albeit in tax, rather than accounting) hopefully I can be helpful.

I'd recommend looking at the big four and the bigger mid tier firms as there will be a bigger variety of clients and more people to work with and there will likely be better training available.

Does your daughter want to do anything in particular within accountancy, or is the goal for now just to get ACA/ACCA qualified and go from there?

Also, at this time of the year you may find a lot of vacancies gone, just like with uni applications. I had my job offer 10 months before the start date!

KPMG have an Audit school leaver programme - 6 year CA/ACA training contract and they put you through an Accounting degree at Durham or Birmingham. Available in nearly all of their offices (nearest would be Reading or Gatwick). Needs ABB at A Level.

EY have 2 school leaver programmes - either university first or certificates while working in Audit, Tax or Advisory. Needs 300 UCAS points.

PWC have apprenticeships that lead to professional qualifications.

Deloitte - http://www2.deloitte.com/uk/en/pages/careers/artic...

Grant Thornton - https://trainees.grant-thornton.co.uk/programmes/s...

BDO - http://www.bdoschoolleavers.co.uk/Home

These schemes are all client facing roles that lead to a school leaver being a Chartered Accountant exactly like those who join through the graduate schemes. The earlier Deloitte link is mainly for non-client facing support roles aimed at GCSE students.

Elsewhere look out for firms offering AAT/CFAB, preferably leading to the CA/ACA/ACCA qualifications (some apprenticeship schemes are AAT only with no guaranteed progression beyond that). ICAEW have a database here - http://careers.icaew.com/school-students-leavers
