How many hours a week do you work and commute
Discussion
Leave home at 5am/5:45am dependant on pedal/motorbike to be at my desk at ~6:30, work through, with a 30 min gap to scoff lunch, to 6:30/7pm then another hour/45 mins on the pedal/motorbike home, this is the average.
However, it can sometimes mean getting in for 5am if I'm over the wall and need something out by 7:45 or working through to the early hours for similar reasons. Normally it's 5 days a week but can be 7 if snowed under, this does exclude the 30 mins a day at weekends and 15 mins in the evenings checking/replying to emails.
So normally it's a 60 hour (70 inc commute) week, worst was well past 100 and best is 50, all depends on what's happening/whether is reporting season/people on holiday etc or not.

Roughly 6 minutes to work, twice a day for 5 days = 1 hour commute per week.
I work 37.5 hours per week and very rarely do I do overtime unless somehting's gone wrong. I sometimes have to use personal time to travel but that's normally only 3 or 4 times per year.
So that's approximately 38.5 hours a week although I don't get paid for 30 minute lunch breaks so I'll add another 2 hours as we leave early on Friday so don't need lunch.
40.5 hours.
That used to be closer to 60 hours when my career was taking off but I've done the ground work now. It's all about the home time.

Leave house 6.30, arrive at desk 7.30 (1 hr)
Work to 12 (4.5 hrs)
Lunch till 1
Work to 5 (4 hrs)
Arrive home 6-6.30ish (1 hr)
So 42.5 hours work a week plus about 10 hours commuting - hey, I'm actually very average!
That said, it does very much depend on what's actually on at work. 6am-7pm isn't unheard of, but then neither is 8am-3pm...

37 hour week and about 3.5 hours commuting (20 mins ish each way)
We work flexi time and sometimes on customer sites so sometimes if I'm away I'll do 45-50 hour weeks, but get it back as flexi or overtime. I've also done jobs where I've been based offsite for a few months with 1-1.5 hour commute, and get a 10% salary uplift for it rather than paid travel time.

I have a not so great rota which involves circa 90 hours in 7 days maybe a bit more with 2 hours a day commuting, then get a day off followed by another 2 days at work then 4 days off then it all starts again, providing I don't have to cover for anyone in my off period. This doesn't take in to account all the work related stuff I have to do at home. Working in 35-40 degree heat having climbed a 350ft ladder to get there after a North Sea boat ride. It's not the most glamourous lifestyle! Rubbish money too. A change is on the cards once the pressure is off me as sole earner in the house next year.
