That's the trouble when people have OCD and want to keep sweeping up their forum smile

I do think it's better placed in CG & S but can see why you might move it to somewhere entitled Jobs !

Not my area (geographically or professionally) but if it were, that is exactly the type of advert I would want to respond to. Nice work.

I had a reason to call Henry the other day, I was actually on the blag for a bit of help on CCS (Cheap Chinese st) DVR issue. Henry wasn't available at the time and I played the 'I know Henry from PH line', however the other gentleman that I spoke to was brilliant, explained why he couldn't give me an answer, i.e. not CCS kit they work with, offered a whole load more information that was quite interesting, and basically a thoroughly enjoyable experience.

To any novice who knows a bit of IP and port forwarding, has a smart phone, understands Apps - get in there.

(btw - Henry can you assist me in getting a master reset code for a QVIS DVR - I'm led to believe there is a 24 hour master reset code available based upon the date shown on screen, we've pulled the DVR out and installed a new one - it would be good to get the old working again. It was originally bought from a crowd in Scarborough that don't answer the phone)

Unfortunately we don't deal with QVIS. You would need to speak to someone who does. I suspect they may require you to send the DVR back to them to re-set passwords. Having a master code somewhat negates the point of it being password protected in the first place !

From a quick Google search it looks like there is a reset code which is available.

You must thoroughly understand port forwarding on routers.

This sounds just what I'm looking for in a career change, being made redundant end of November, IT 22 years service.

But my biggest hurdles would be the 2 above points, Port forwarding I can learn. But I'm not the most chatty of people, but can get things done as plenty of experience dealing with user's on the Service Desk and Engineers also organising and running Disaster Recovery tests for the main data centre.

Would i even get a look in?

your a 110 mile round trip, or just over an hour each way for me so doable.

I'm looking for something with an intimidate start to fill in an employment gap. I'm waiting on enhanced vetting for my new job. Potential start date is 12th October; could be earlier, could be later, but is flexible.

I have most of the skills you're looking for, for example I've built several of my own computers over the years. You'd have to accommodate for the month, as I live in Scotland.

If you're interested, drop me a PM

Dear Mr Methylated Spirit.

Thank you for your recent response to our vacancy.

Unfortunately we were trying to avoid angry or intimidating candidates.

The post is full time, it could even see the successful candidate running the joint in a few years time. It's a good opportunity for someone.

Whilst I consider myself a generous employer I hadn't considered opening up my house and allowing someone to live with us. Having had a quick ring around other employers appear to share the same view although Richard Branson said he does occasionally open his holiday home up to senior staff as a reward. Our beach hut in Frinton-on-Sea would be too far to commute from. As you have pointed out Scotland to essentially London is also out of the question.

Finally in the vacancy announcement we were quite specific about the method of contact. Nothing sinister, it just allows us to evaluate you and your telephone manner from a customer's perspective. We appreciate you might be nervous and will of course take that into account but it's a starting point.

Thank you very much for taking the time to contact us but unfortunately on this occasion we wouldn't be able to offer you an interview.

Kind regards and good luck in your new job starting October.

Henry

biggrin not sure if Henry is being serious. (Dear Mr Methylated Spirit rofl)

It is a nicely written ad though, and the style (if not the job) would appeal to me.
