I seem to be struggling at the moment. Anecdotal evidence on the net suggests the market is going through a funny period, but then again somebody always says that.

My past job history has always involved throwing my cv on jobserve and then getting a phone call within a week, but that no longer seems to happen. I'm barely getting any cv downloads and those that have rung me have just tailed off into nothingness (I suspect they may be fishing expeditions). I'm not seeing many roles going which makes me think they're either not there or they're filled through a harvested cv list before that. Unless you have SC in which case I suspect you're fending them off with a stick.

So what do you do to get your roles?

Put your cv on every jobsite going and wait?
Apply for anything relevant and blag it?
Go via Linkedin?
Ring every agency going?
Old Boys network?

Seriously debating going permie again because I can't see much hope before Christmas if this continues. (I'm a tester if that helps).

I am 3.5 years into contracting after 14 years as a consultant performance tester.

I am now on my third contract and every one of them has come from contacts made during F/T consultancy and they have heard I am available when they needed someone.

No doubt I will have to deal with an agency at some stage but more than happy for things to continue as they are!

In it a year and on my third contract. When i'm looking I find closely relevant roles then stick in a (slightly) tailored CV. I view it as a pipeline - 10 applications translates to maybe 2 callbacks, 3-4 callbacks translates to one interview, and so far i'm getting a done no more than two or three interviews before getting a role. In fact the most recent contract i only had the one interview and got it - finished in one place on the wednesday, started in the next on the monday.

Also, had a callback from the first contract of this year they need someone again and were looking me back but the timing isnt working for me, but good to get offered.

cwjobs.co.uk, reed.co.uk, jobserve and monster.
