If tradesmen want to be considered and paid like professionals they need to learn soft skills.
I have had many working for me who get bad tempered and sweary if the job doesn’t go easy for them.

And the willfully bad timekeeping skills. I have had many working for me who get bad tempered and sweary if the job doesn’t go easy for them.

We've a roof issue on our garage, found someone willing to do it, he says he'll be "out some night this week to take a look at it". I predict late next week and i'll have to ping him several times to chase up.
Our boiler / underfloor / water solar system all need serviced. Pinged the guy mid April, still waiting.... granted hes not treating it as a priority as its not but at the same time thats heading towards three months now. Really good when he comes out, they know their stuff but a horror to get out.
Patio doors on the house - we wanted those replaced. Had to ping the guy for three weeks on and off to get him to come out to measure up, ordered now apparently, be interesting to see when we get them.
Was talking to a builder a while ago and he says his heart was broke getting tradespeople in. He could maybe guarantee someone £XXX per day for six months but some day they might not turn in with no notice because someone offered them £XXX+50 for a single days work, so they'd be away doing that.
I'd say theres definitely a fortune to be made if someone did get themselves a trade and made appointments (even to the nearest day, with updates), kept them and then were civil to people when they did come out.

Funny you say that. I book in appointments to within 30 min arrival slots. 90% within 5 min and I'm turning work away as I'm too busy. We've a roof issue on our garage, found someone willing to do it, he says he'll be "out some night this week to take a look at it". What do you do in 'IT'? Switch to infrastructure installation, running CAT cables and fibres, patch bays etc. 'Similar' work to electrical, no qualifications needed.
That's a very good suggestion. I work in the network space in IT, so very well versed in running infrastructure cabling. Tbh I've seen what cablers are paid and it's not really for me, but a very good suggestion

what most people forget here is they only look at the yearly figure and see a 10k payrise as a huge thing
once you take off the extra tax, NI, pension etc its never as much as you would like.
plus with that most people then earn more = spend more so the difference is even less
when i worked on a building site they said
80-100 labourer
200 (sometimes £1 a brick) brick layer
250 plumber
300 electrician
these were north london prices and only what i was told. not sure why they would lie to me.
Must have been a long time since you was on-site? once you take off the extra tax, NI, pension etc its never as much as you would like.

A labourer in Central London could earn up to 300 per day (hvac company was paying this) and a welder up to 500 on projects around canary wharf. Prices correct as of last summer. Obviously these are anomalies but silly money being paid for trades as there's a lack of people.
Site managers are now on around 60k in Central London

I can imagine you are! You're 1 in a thousand IME. That said, roofer bloke turned up this evening without having to be chased, which was good. Roof repair being done tomorrow night
